Can My PC Run Humankind?

If you are looking to play something a bit complex, somewhat long-term, and completely immersive; then look no further than 4X games. However, there are 4X games, like Humankind, that can be quite intensive on your computer.

So, how do you know if your PC can run Humankind?

Don’t worry. We got you covered.

This article is a breakdown of Humankind’s minimum PC requirements that you need in order to decently run the game.

System Requirements

CPU: Intel i5 4th generation, AMD FX-8300

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 770, AMD R9 290, AMD Radeon 460, Intel® Iris™

RAM: 8 GB RAM

STORAGE: At least 25 GB of free space

OS: Windows 7 64-Bit, Mac OS X 10.12

CPU

The developers recommend at least an Intel i5 4th generation or AMD FX-8300.

4X games like Humankind tend to be pretty CPU intensive above all else. This is because 4X games can have hundreds of units moving about, being built or modified, doing multiple actions like battles or resource mining, and the player also tends to place consecutive commands.

Though you can get away with an i5 4th gen, we recommend an i5 6th gen or an AMD Ryzen 5 1600, maybe even a 3600.

The reason why we recommend getting a decent CPU is because this component is pretty hard to replace. While a new graphics card and memory can be easily bought, upgrading a CPU requires a lot of thought and can also depend on the motherboard.

Choose something that can last you for years while playing Humankind and other 4X games.

You have to have at least an NVIDIA GTX 770 or an AMD R9 290.

Having an NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD RX 5500-XT, or something better, would be fine but we do not really think it is necessary. This is of course unless you want something visually crisp or if you are aiming for 1440p 144hz gaming, then bank on something really worth your money like a 2080 Ti.

Though, again, we do want to reiterate that 4X titles tend to be more CPU and RAM intensive. Graphically rendering a map or anything that is viewed from afar does not usually need strong visual hardware.

RAM

To run Humankind, make sure you have at least 8 GB of RAM.

RAM is absolutely important depending on what you do with your computer. Humankind can take up a lot of RAM, but it can still be managed.

For Humankind, there is no need to buy something ridiculous like 24 GB or even 32 GB. You can make do with a simple 8 GB DD3 or DDR4 RAM or you can go as high as 12 GB.

What is more important is knowing how to allocate more RAM to Humankind.

Motherboard

If you are not trying to be picky with your PC parts, you can simply choose a processor + motherboard combination that can be bought in any computer store. However, if you are the type who loves building things by hand, you have to buy the right motherboard.

It is an important component that can easily dictate what your next parts will be. For example, there are certain processors that are only compatible with specific motherboard models. Motherboards can also dictate the amount and format of RAM that you can install.

If your CPU is an i5 4th gen, a mobo with H81 or B85 chipsets would be a fair choice. You can try an Asus H81M-C. If you have an AMD FX-8300, you can try an Asus M5A87L-M or maybe even something equal from Gigabyte.

If you are considering high-end stuff, definitely check out Asus ROG and MSI B460, Z490, or B550s.

Storage

No specifications were mentioned when it comes to HDD or SSD size, but you should at least have 25 GB of space available for your PC to run Humankind.

For this reason, we recommend having at least a 512 GB SSD. Depending on the brand, they can actually come pretty cheap.

You may also want to consider an Intel 1 TB SSD that is being sold in retail for $115. Considering its capacity, it is actually a steal.

Now, we know you can still run a computer without an HDD but if you have the cash, you can go for a 1 TB HDD. Consider the brands Seagate or WD which is being retailed for as low as $40.

Operating System

You must at least have a 64-bit processor and operating system. The minimum would be a Windows 7 64-bit or a Mac OS X 10.12 or higher.

We definitely recommend upgrading to Windows 10. You will not be having a hard time adjusting because it merely improved the existing features of Windows 7. It also has built-in security connections and connectivity shortcuts that just make life easier.

However, if your computer is barely scratching the minimum requirements of Humankind, stick to Windows 7. This OS still has good app compatibility and runs better on rudimentary hardware.

Summary

Humankind is an awesome 4X game that does not necessarily need equally awesome hardware to run. You can definitely get away with the minimum requirements and still be able to play Humankind on your PC at a relatively high level.

However, if you are really looking to maximize your Humankind gaming, there are some pretty minor and affordable things that you can buy. If you can spare a couple more dollars, it may vastly improve your gaming without breaking the bank.
