You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a decent gaming TV that offers all the features that you could possibly need.
Sure, for $100-$200 you probably aren’t going to get 4K resolution, but what you can sometimes get is something that’s actually better when it comes to gaming.
That’s because when playing games – especially competitive FPS games – the quality of the display isn’t the most important factor. Instead, you want to look for something with a low response time and fast refresh rate so there’s no input lag between your controller and the display.
When it comes to really finding the best 32-inch gaming TV, we really wanted to ensure we found something suitable for every type of gamer.
Our overall 32″ gaming TV pick is the 4K QLED Samsung QN32Q60AAFXZA, with a stunning display and the lowest response time for TVs in this review. However, if you’re looking for better gaming performance at a more affordable price, we recommend the AOC C32G2 165Hz 1ms curved monitor.
Our findings show that the average 32″ TV that is suitable for gaming tends to cost around $200 and offers at least; a 60Hz refresh rate which is standard for most consoles and PCs; a maximum of 10ms response time; 1080p resolution (to enjoy high-definition graphics); and an LCD or LED display technology panel for a rich and vibrant image color.
However, if FPS games like Call of Duty or Fortnite are your priority, a TV is actually not what you should be considering. Monitors are actually better in most aspects when it comes to the important gaming factors we’ve already spoken about.
So, we’ve decided to include some 32-inch gaming monitors into this article for the gamers who know they want a 32-inch display, but don’t have a preference as to whether it’s technically a ‘TV’ or a ‘monitor’.
And if you’d like a beautiful 4K display to appreciate campaign games or slower-paced multiplayer games on, we’ve got you covered too.
Whether you want to watch Netflix in 4K or play FPS games at 240Hz, there is a product on this list made just for you.
First of all, I have been gaming both casually and competitively for over a decade and know exactly what is needed from a screen when gaming is concerned.
Despite my vast knowledge that I acquired while researching for my own personal gaming setup, myself and the team at DiamondLobby spent an additional 27 hours testing and researching every single of the products that you will see on this list.
Based on this experience and research, we provide you with our 100% honest opinion for each of the TVs and gaming monitors that we decided to include as part of our rigorous selection process.
We made our selection based on fairly strict criteria that each of the products needed to meet in order to qualify for this list. This criterion considered the design, performance, connectivity, and price of the products.
In terms of design, almost all gaming TVs and monitors have a slim and modern look these days. Overall, we focused almost entirely on performance, however there were some interesting design features that stood out.
For the gaming TVs, we went for options that could be wall-mounted or be attached to a desk stand in order to save space and achieve a cleaner look. At the end of the day, those are just extras and you don’t need to make use of as all products on this list come with a stand (for the monitors) and legs for the TVs.
For the monitors, we included a fair amount of selections that are adjustable in a range of different ways from height to tilting in order to meet your exact gaming needs.
How your screen performs will have a huge effect on your overall gaming experience. You may have the most powerful gaming PC or the latest gaming console but if you have a monitor or a TV that cannot perform on the same level, it will all be wasted. So, our selection was pretty simple, find the best performing gaming screen at the best price. We looked at:
The refresh rate of your screen is super important when it comes to playing games. Refresh rate refers to the number of times the image on the display will refresh per second. Typically, the higher the refresh rate of your screen, the smoother gaming experience you will have.
As a bare minimum, I would recommend you to get a 60Hz display. Now, if you are a bit more of a competitive player, I strongly advise you to grab a screen that supports at least 144Hz. The difference is staggering. If you can afford to spend even more money, 240Hz is pretty much the best you can get and is the highest the human eye can see.
Both the gaming TVs and gaming monitors in our selection have been tested and have a very reasonable response time. Response time refers to the input lag, which essentially is the delay from pressing a button on your keyboard or controller to the moment the action is displayed on the screen. The lower your input lag/response time, the better your gaming experience will be.
When picking the products, we stuck to units that had less than 10ms, as when we tested, we confirmed that this is a fairly unnoticeable delay that won’t affect your gaming at all.
The resolution of your screen is critical if you want to achieve a decent graphics level.
As a bare minimum we have opted for 720p HD, though found that both the 1080p and 720p gaming TVs are priced at a relatively similar price level so going for the higher resolution makes the most sense.
If you have a little bit more money to spend and a system that can comfortably run such graphics, we also included some worthwhile 4K options.
We have explored and selected a wide range of display panel technologies ranging from LCD to LED and even QLED for the ones that want a more modern, and pricy technology in their unit.
Connectivity is super important for a gaming screen. So, we have made a selection based on screens that have different connectivity options ranging from the old VGA to HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort. This will give you plenty of different options that you can pick from when securing the maximum possible performance out of your gaming display.
As the cost of the product is typically the deciding factor for many gamers, we made a fair selection that covers a wide range of budgets from just over $100 to around $800 at the time of writing this guide. Please note that just because some of the products are really affordable, they still met our gaming specification criteria and are still a very good choice if you don’t want to overly spend on a higher-end screen.
If you are after the best gaming performance, the best overall picture quality, and are willing to invest a little bit extra, then the Samsung QN32Q60AAFXZA is the gaming TV for you. It delivers the best overall image quality due to its 4K QLED panel (which is known to deliver the best brightness and color intensity while being remarkably efficient in power consumption). The Samsung QN32Q60AAFXZA also has the lowest input lag at just 5ms from all gaming TVs on this list, which is incredible for a gaming TV considering the average TV can reach a response time of over 50ms.
This essentially means that the time it takes from pressing a button to seeing the action displayed on the screen takes just 0.005 of a full second. Even some gaming monitors don’t provide this response rate.
Moreover, if you have a powerful PC or the newer gaming consoles that can comfortably support 4K graphics, this TV can be the right companion for providing you with 4K image quality at 60 Hz.
The best price at the time of writing was $397.99.
If you are after the best value for money 32-inch gaming TV, our favorite pick is the TCL 32S237. This TV offers some desirable gaming traits like 1080p image quality, 6.5ms of input lag (which is quite low considering it’s a TV and it has a low price point), and a 60Hz refresh rate. This makes this inexpensive product easily one of the best choices when it comes to value for money if you are playing on a console or have a lower-end gaming PC that can comfortably support 1080p at 60 FPS (frames-per-second).
In terms of image, the TCL 32S237 hosts an LED panel (which is known for its long life span, low energy consumption, and exceptional color range) to meet the demands of any game at 1920 x 1080 resolution.
In case you care about voice controls, this unit also supports Alexa so if you have one at home, this 32-inch gaming TV can really take your gaming experience to a whole new level.
The best price at the time of writing was $199.99.
As we mentioned at the start, we also decided to include some 32-inch gaming monitors into the list to provide you with a vast range of alternatives before you make up your mind on the product that you want to make part of your gaming setup.
Our personal favorite 32″ gaming monitor is the AOC C32G2. It is jam-packed with performance-enhancing features that no TV from this list can even come close to competing against, making it the ultimate contender for the top spot.
The best price at the time of writing was $275.99.
The AOC C32G2 features a curved, frameless display that can put you in the center of the action for an immersive gaming experience. The sleek 3-legged stand of the monitor can help you tilt, swivel, and height-adjust your screen to your liking.
Under the sleek and modern design of the AOC C32G2, you will find an LCD panel that supports 1920 x 1080p resolution at an impressive 165 Hz, which is perfect for a medium-range gaming PC or the next-generation of consoles.
One incredible feature of this gaming monitor is the extremely low response rate, which is set at just 1ms. To give you a bit of a perspective, from executing an action on your keyboard or controller to having that action being translated on-screen takes just 0.001 of a full-second. This is the best response rate that you can get, and if someone says that you need better, you really don’t because you won’t be able to notice any difference.
This monitor features a total of four connectivity ports. 1x VGA, 1x DisplayPort 1.2, and 2x HDMI 2.0 ports. If you want to reach the maximum output resolution and refresh rate of this gaming monitor, you can either use the DisplayPort 1.2 or the HDMI 2.0 port.
Some Great 32-Inch Gaming TVs
Now, if what you are after is a gaming TV, please take a moment to explore each of the products in detail to determine which one is best for your gaming needs.
The Vizio D32F-G is the most affordable 1080p 32-inch gaming TV on this list. Despite its low price point, it hosts a wide range of performance-enhancing features that surprised us when we got around to testing the TV in a range of different scenarios.
The best price at the time of writing was $249.00.
Weighing at just 8.88lbs, this 2019 TV spreads at 28.66″ in width, 7.83″ in depth, and 18.93″ in height. This TV definitely isn’t the thinnest, but as compared to other gaming TVs in this price range, the Vizio D32F-G is a really great choice. This set also comes with two sets of legs that act as stands if you decide to have the gaming TV on your desk.
However, you can also mount it to a wall if you want to with the MOUNTUP TV Wall Mount which you will need to purchase separately for around $23.99 at the time of writing.
As for performance, this gaming TV unit, like all the others, fully supports 60Hz refresh rate, which is a fairly standard when it comes to gaming TVs. Great thing about this product is that the response time is also really low as compared to any other TV within this price bracket.
The exact number is not available, however, after running some tests ourselves, we came to the conclusion that there is very minimal input lag delay that you won’t even notice if you are a casual gamer.
The LCD panel of the Vizio D32F-G can output the amazing 1920 x 1080p, so, if you have a console or a gaming PC that can comfortably hold 60 FPS at this resolution, this 32-inch gaming TV is a great and affordable pick.
In terms of connectivity, on this TV, you will find 1x USB 2.0, 2x HDMI, 1x antenna, 1x ethernet, 5x audio, and 1x optical audio ports. The primary method of connectivity is HDMI so be sure to pick up an HDMI cable as this TV set doesn’t provide one if you want to game as soon as you get the unit.
LG Electronics 32LJ500B
The LG Electronics 32LJ500B is a fantastic pick for beginners or casual gamers who are after a modern-looking gaming TV that provides a decent level of performance for just a few hundred dollars. Take a look below for a detailed breakdown of its design, performance, and connectivity options.
The best price at the time of writing was $348.00.
This 32-inch gaming TV by LG features a very minimalistic design. This is partly due to it’s very clean-looking 2-legged stand. The relatively thin bezel of this system also makes this TV look really great for its relatively low price point of just 219.99 at the time of writing this post.
As a side feature, provided you don’t want this unit to sit on your desk, you can simply grab a suitable wall-mounting bracket and put it on the wall. The TV arrives with all the necessary screw holes to accept an industry-standard VESA 100 mount*.
As for performance, this gaming TV hosts an LED panel that supports 720p HD resolution for crisp-clear image quality. When gaming is concerned, I typically wouldn’t go lower than 720p, but since this gaming TV supports 60Hz, with a response time of just 10ms, I think it’s a great pick for beginners and casual players.
We tested this TV playing games such as Warzone, GTA V, and Fortnite using both controller and mouse and keyboard. The results; a really decent performance with minimal input lag, and satisfying image quality.
In terms of connectivity, this unit has 2x HDMI, 1x USB, 1x RF ports, which are plenty for you to get the maximum out of this TV. The only downside is that this gaming TV doesn’t have a headphones jack or any audio ports as a matter of fact, but as long as you are using headphones that are plugged into your console or PC, you will be just fine.
Hisense H4 Series
If you are looking for the cheapest possible option when it comes to a gaming TV, the Hisense H4 Series is the right pick for you. It packs all the necessary features that you need in order to be able to have a decent gaming experience without overspending.
The best price at the time of writing was $212.92.
In terms of design, this model features a relatively thin bezel with two modern-looking legs that act as a stand, making this unit sleek and minimalistic. In terms of thickness, it definitely isn’t the thinnest, measuring at 28.9″ in width, 18.7″ in height, and 6.7″ in depth (with the stand).
If you don’t fancy having your gaming TV on the desk, you can simply mount it to your wall for a cleaner and simpler look. For that though, you will need to grab a suitable wall mount bracket.
When it comes to performance, this 32-inch TV by Hisense supports a resolution rate of 720p while using an LED display technology to provide the best image quality possible. For me personally, 720p quality is a little too low, but if you really are after purchasing something that can do the job for as cheap as possible, it is the right choice.
And when I say do the job, I mean that this gaming TV is really capable of providing you with a decent gaming experience due to its native 60Hz refresh rate and above-average 10ms response time.
This TV has 3x HDMI ports, 1x USB, 1x gaming headset port, and a port for an antenna, provided you also want to watch TV using this unit on top of gaming.
Some Great 32-Inch Monitors
SAMSUNG 32-Inch Odyssey G5 Gaming Monitor
The SAMSUNG 32-Inch Odyssey G5 Gaming Monitor is a fantastic choice for any serious gamer that is willing to invest a few hundred dollars into getting a gaming monitor that will last for years. It is jam-packed with game-enhancing functionalities, making it one of my personal favorites after spending over 3 hours personally testing the product.
The best price at the time of writing was $349.99.
The main feature that we’d like to point out is that this gaming monitor is actually curved, which will allow you to immerse yourself in the center of the action. Overall, it hosts a relatively slim frame and a 2-legged stand for the ultimate stability. If you want to achieve a more clean look on your desk, you can just remove the 2-legged stand with a VESA mount and have your gaming monitor attached to your desk.
In terms of graphical performance, this QHD Samsung gaming monitor supports a display resolution of up to 2560 x 1440 in a 16:9 aspect ratio, making it a brilliant choice if your console or gaming PC can smoothly run at such resolution. With the AMD FreeSync technology implemented into the hardware of the display, you can enjoy an even lower level of screen tearing, stutter, and input latency for a smoother and more enjoyable gaming experience.
Beyond the QHD graphics, the Odyssey G5 can also support an output of 144Hz refresh rate at the lightning-fast 1ms response time. To give you a bit of perspective, I play competitively on a tight budget and use a 5ms 144Hz monitor, and don’t feel the need for much of an improvement. So, if you’d like to get value for money, the SAMSUNG 32-Inch Odyssey G5 Gaming Monitor is a very good option for you.
As for connectivity, this 32-inch gaming monitor has a total of 3 ports, 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.2, and 1x USB 2.0 port.
Do you like the monitor from above but would like to go a step further in terms of specifications and performance? In that case, the SAMSUNG 32-Inch Odyssey G7 Gaming Monitor is just for you.
Whether the significant increase in price is worth it, we will leave that to you to decide upon after we go over the core upgrades that we can see in the G7 as compared to the G5 model by Samsung.
The best price at the time of writing was $649.99.
An Upgrade in Refresh Rate
First and foremost, we can see an increase in supported refresh rate from 144Hz in the G5 to 240Hz in the G7.
An Upgrade in Connectivity
We can also see an increase in the performance of input ports in the G7 as compared to the G5.
|Specs||Samsung Odyssey G5||Samsung Odyssey G7|
|HDMI||1x HDMI 2.0||1x HDMI 2.0|
|DisplayPort||1x DisplayPort 1.2||2x DisplayPort 1.4|
|USB||1x USB 2.0||2x USB 3.0|
An Upgrade in Ergonomics
In terms of weight, the G7 is 600g heavier (without a stand) and 2.3kg heavier (with a stand). While both remain curved, the G7 offers better ergonomics than the G5.
|Ergonomics||Samsung Odyssey G5||Samsung Odyssey G7|
|Height Adjustability||0.0″ (0.0 cm)||4.7″ (12.0 cm)|
|Tilt Adjustability||No||Yes, Clockwise|
|Swivel Adjustability||No swivel||-15° to 15°|
|Switch Portrait/Landscape||-17.5° to 2.5°||-15° to 5°|
There are also plenty of other small changes in the G7 such as thickness, build quality, image color, and more. If you ask me whether this gaming monitor is worth its price point. I would say yes. And as far as recommending it, if you can afford to spend such money on the SAMSUNG 32-Inch Odyssey G7 Gaming Monitor, I’d highly recommend it as you can use it for the next 5 years, and you will still have one of the best monitors out there.
If you are after a budget-friendly monitor, the SAMSUNG 32-inch T55 Series is a great pick. It is the most affordable 32″ monitor from our selection. It is a great choice for casual gamers that want a reliable system without having to fork out hundreds of dollars.
The best price at the time of writing was $299.99.
One of the first and most notable features of this T55 Series 32-inch monitor by Samsung is that it is curved. The curvature closely fits the human field-of-view for less eye strain and deeper immersion.
Weighting at around 20.4 pounds, this 32-inch gaming monitor follows a fairly minimalistic and modern design, which features a relatively thin bezel.
This particular model is supported by a round-based stand that is unfortunately fixed. This means that the monitor screen is non-adjustable both in height and tilt.
In terms of performance, this 32-inch gaming monitor features a 1920 x 1080 px LED screen, which is perfect for a medium-range PC build or a console. In terms of response time, for this model, it is at the minimal 4ms, which really is a lightning-fast response time as compared to some other models that we came across during our research.
Furthermore, this gaming monitor can also comfortably sustain a 75Hz refresh rate, and thanks to the AMD FreeSync integrated technology, you can have a smooth, tear-free gaming experience.
As for connectivity, the T55 Series features 1x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort, and 1x VGA port, which provides you with the ultimate amount of connection options.
After some thought, we came to the conclusion that it is only fair to include a 4K option for the gamers who have a more powerful PC or a next-gen console. We decided to stop at the ViewSonic XG3220 purely because of its incredible features (which we will explore below), and relatively affordable price point.
The best price at the time of writing was $713.99.
In terms of design, the whole unit weighs around 18lbs. Unfortunately, this model’s stand is non-adjustable. But, if you decide to mount it on a wall or use its VESA compatible mount design to attach it to your desk, you can use the mount’s ergonomics to tilt and adjust the gaming monitor to your liking.
As a nice little extra, the XG3220 by ViewSonic also features a cable management loop that is built on the back of the stand to help you hide away all those cables for an extra cleaner look (especially if you decide to put your monitor on a VESA mount.
When performance is concerned, this monitor supports 4K UHD graphics at up to 60Hz. So, if you have a powerful enough system to offload such graphics to this monitor, it would be a great purchase. Furthermore, the XG3220 has an integrated FreeSynch technology developed by AMD to reduce screen tearing, stutters, and put the input delay to a minimum, despite its already pretty low 5ms response time.
When it comes to connectivity, this model by ViewSonic certainly doesn’t disappoint. It features 1x Headphone hook, 2x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.2a, and 5x USB 3.0 ports. Both the HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2 support 3840 x 2160 px at 60Hz, which is essentially all you need if you decide to go for this gaming monitor.
Who This is For
If you are a serious gamer (casual or competitive), you should pick up a screen that is specifically made for gaming. This is because unlike watching movies, your screen will need to be able to handle every single action that you take in a very timely manner, or else, your gaming experience will be ruined.
So, if you’d like to even remotely be able to enjoy video games with your friends, a gaming TV or monitor is something that you should seriously consider. Just because it has “gaming” in front of the title, that doesn’t necessarily mean unaffordable and expensive. In fact, we have some amazing selections that meet the criteria for under $200 which you can explore further down in this post.
What Makes a Good Gaming TV?
When shopping for a TV, the general customer looks at the quality, and if they are satisfied with that, they will generally be willing to invest the money into the product. However, when it comes to gaming TVs, there are a lot more things surrounding the systems technology that you need to consider if you want to have an enjoyable experience. Here are 5 of the most important criteria of a gaming TV that you need to consider before making the purchase.
Anything under 60Hz is a pretty terrible deal because you can have the most powerful PC in the world, but if your TV supports anything less than 60Hz, it will be a pretty dissatisfying experience. This especially applies if you are looking to play fast-paced games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, or Battle Field. Generally speaking, the higher the Hz, the better gaming experience you will have.
When shopping for a gaming TV, one of the most important things to look out for is the unit’s input lag. For the ones that don’t know, input lag refers to the fraction of time that it takes a particular action such as pressing a button on your controller or keyboard to be translated on the screen.
In the past, TVs were a pretty big turn-off for gamers purely because the response time of TVs back in the day was simply far too high for any type of game to be played comfortably on – some reaching numbers of over 50ms.
Ideally, you should be looking for a gaming TV with less than 10 to 15ms response time as this fraction of the second can barely be noticed. A little bit over 10-15 is still not too bad if you can get a good deal, but the higher the response time is, the worse your gaming experience is going to be.
You may have heard of QLED, LCD, LED, OLED, and so on. But, what do these actually mean when it comes to gaming, and should you be paying attention to the display technology? After thorough testing and research, yes, you absolutely should, if you care about the overall quality of color that you see on the screen. I have found that for gaming, LED does the job just fine, but if you have a little more money to spend, you could consider investing in an OLED or QLED screen, which provides a much more vibrant image.
The resolution of the TV refers to the number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed. So, if you take a 1280 x 720 px TV, your TV will display any given image within 1280 pixels (wide), and 720 pixels (height). If you have a 1920 x 1080 px screen resolution, then any given image will be displayed within 1920 pixels (wide), and 1080 pixels (height).
Essentially, the higher that your screen resolution is, the more clear and saturated the quality of the image displayed will be (provided the image supports this type of resolution). Ideally, I wouldn’t go below 1080p as the quality will be unsatisfactory.
Having a vast range of connectivity ports in your gaming TV is important. From being able to take full advantage of the Hz that your TV supports to being able to set up a surround sound system in your room, understanding the ports that your TV comes with can really make your gaming experience incredible. If you find a TV outside of this list that supports more than 60Hz, you should be looking for DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI 2.0 in order to achieve a higher frequency for smoother gameplay.
Gaming TV vs Gaming Monitor: Which One is Better?
As much as I would love to point out which the best one is, it really comes down to what type of gamer you are and if you want to use the screen for anything else. If you are a casual player that also wants to enjoy watching Netflix in the evening, a good TV from this list will be a really good pick for you.
However, if you are looking to get into competitive gaming or are playing fast-paced First-Person Shooter games such as Fortnite or CoD, I would recommend a gaming monitor as it can provide you with literally everything you need to be able to enjoy games without any issue.
After 27 hours of in-depth research and testing the products above, here are the key takeaways. Gaming monitors provide much better value for money in terms of performance when gaming is concerned.
Gaming TVs are a great choice if you are a casual gamer that also enjoys watching movies and videos.
You no longer need to spend hundreds of dollars to get a good screen that can provide you with a decent performance.
Upgrades are definitely worth their price, provided you are willing to invest a little bit more.
