There are many options on the market, which can quickly make things complicated for somone that doesn’t know what to look for.
So, in this guide, the DiamondLobby team and I have taken on the challenge to do all of the research for you, and provide you with a confident list of awesome Bluetooth adapter recommendations.
The selection process was quite simple. First, we conducted thorough research of the community and what the users expect from a Bluetooth adapter. In accordance with our findings, we then created criteria, which helped us identify and make up a comprehensive list of the best qualifying products.
We found that the average Bluetooth adapter was fairly flexible in terms of compatibility, offered a transmission range between 10m to 20m (33ft to 65ft), and featured Bluetooth 4.0 or 5.0 connectivity.
With all that in mind, let’s take a moment to dig deeper and explore our findings.
Our goal with this guide and review is to provide you with a confident list of the best recommendations when it comes to Bluetooth adapters on the market today.
Before we got to work, we first had to understand what made an adapter great. To do that, we conducted some community research to identify the needs and pain points of the average user.
Using our findings, we then created comprehensive criteria, which considered the compatibility, Bluetooth technology, class type and transmission range of the adapters.
After we got our hands on concrete requirements that would qualify a particular Bluetooth adapter, we then went on and spent hours researching the market for the best Bluetooth adapters.
Before we started any sort of research, we knew that we had to create a plan that will help and support us in our decisions. We knew that finding the best Bluetooth adapters amongst hundreds of great choices on the market wasn’t going to be an easy job.
To ensure that our recommendations are truly the best, the team at DiamondLobby and I decided to conduct some research and create criteria to help us identify the best qualifying products, which you will see today.
Unless you plan on using the Bluetooth adapter for only connecting the same device over and over to your PC, you should pay attention to how compatible it is with other devices.
At the end of the day, having an adapter that can establish a wireless connection between virtually any two devices is a winner.
Thus, we have ensured to only pick adapters that are flexible in terms of what devices they can connect together. Whether that is headphones, mice, keyboards, speakers, or virtually any other Bluetooth-enabled device, we’ve got you covered.
Another very important factor to take seriously is the Bluetooth technology that the adapter is equipped with. After conducting research on the matter, it came to our understanding that you shouldn’t go for an adapter with Bluetooth version lower than 4.0 as you are likely to be disappointed.
To ensure that we do indeed pick the best performing Bluetooth adapters, we only went for devices which supported Bluetooth 4.0 and Bluetooth 5.0.
Class Type & Transmission Range
When it comes to Bluetooth adapters, there are two types; class 1 and class 2. Class 1 adapters are most suitable for industrial devices, which require connectivity over a long distance. Class 1 adapters can often cover a distance of over 330 feet.
As for class 2 adapters, they are very different. A class 2 adapter would be most suitable for consumer devices that aren’t aimed at covering long distances. Such devices cover a range anywhere from 30 to 65ft on average. Some such devices include printers, headphones, keyboards, mice, speakers, controllers, and more.
To suit everyone’s individual needs, we have ensured to include Bluetooth adapters from both classes.

What is a Bluetooth Adapter?
Bluetooth adapters are USB-based devices that can be plugged into an ordinary PC to establish a wireless connection with just about any electronic device nearby like headphones, keyboards, mice, printers, speakers, and more.
Adapters are relatively small and compact devices, which are extremely portable. When plugged in, the average adapter is likely to only stick out around half an inch from your laptop or PC.
Sometimes, Bluetooth adapters are referred to as Bluetooth dongles. A dongle is generally just a catch-all term for any small plug-in that sticks out of the socket and doesn’t use a cable.
Typically speaking, most Bluetooth adapters will need to be installed or managed by software. As this can be quite complex for some people to understand, in our guide, you will find plenty of options that follow the “plug and play” principle.
What to Look For
When shopping around for a Bluetooth adapter, you really need to consider the compatibility, transmission range, and Bluetooth technology of the device.
What do you need the Bluetooth adapter for? By answering this question, it will be easy for you to know what you are looking for.
If you are looking for an adapter that can connect your wireless headphones to your PC, you’d be glad to hear that most adapters can do that. On the flip side, if you need to establish a more specific wireless connection, you will need to do a little bit more digging to find an adapter suitable for your needs.
To give you a helping hand, in the description of each of the products in our guide and review, go to “Compatibility” at the bottom of each description to find the full list of compatible electronic devices with each adapter.
Do you need your Bluetooth adapter to cover a distance over 65ft (20m)? In this case, you should go for a Class 1 adapter. On the other hand, if you plan on connecting 2 devices together that are in close proximity to each other (in the same room), then you can go for either a Class 1 or Class 2 adapter.
When it comes to Bluetooth technology, the latest products on the market feature Bluetooth 5.0. They are a little bit more expensive as compared to their Bluetooth 4.0 counterparts.
Generally speaking, both 4.0 and 5.0 variants are a great choice. We personally wouldn’t go for anything lower, which is why we haven’t included any adapters with Bluetooth 3.0 or less.
The core difference between the two isn’t necessarily the quality of connection, but more the distance that they can successfully establish a wireless connection over.
Bluetooth adapters are mostly made for computers and laptops that don’t already feature an integrated Bluetooth adapter.
Both Bluetooth 4.0 and 5.0 are a great choice. We will, however, recommend you to stay away from any older versions if you want to be able to enjoy a hassle-free wireless connection between your two devices.
Bluetooth 5.0 is a little more expensive as compared to Bluetooth 4.0. By all means, you don’t need to own the newest Bluetooth adapter to be able to enjoy a quality connection between your devices.
Some Bluetooth adapters can connect multiple Bluetooth-enabled devices with a single USB. This is a great choice if you are on the go or if you don’t want to take up all of your PC’s or laptops’ USBs for each piece of equipment that you have for your setup.
