Over the years, gaming monitors have evolved dramatically to provide gamers with the optimal gaming experience. From better and more in-depth graphics to lighting-fast response time and unique designs, the gaming monitors today truly have it all.

To help you find the best gaming monitor for you, we conducted extensive research. During our market research, we considered the following aspects of every monitor we came across:

  • Resolution
  • Screen Size
  • Lightning Type
  • Refresh Rate
  • Response Time
  • Syncronization Technology

And at the end, we simply picked the best eight monitors from the list of 15 that we initially had selected.

But before we get into the best monitors on the market today, it’s important for you to understand why you can trust this review.

Why You Can Trust This Review

The sole objective of this guide is to provide you – our readers with a selection of the best gaming monitors on the market today. Every piece of information that we deemed relevant will be presented to you in a simple and straightforward manner.

As gamers, we understand the importance of picking the right product for your budget and needs, and so we’ve made sure to include a variety of products to pick from.

But, how do we know what the best monitors on the market are? As mentioned previously, above all, we are gamers – just like you. On top of our general knowledge accumulated throughout the years, we conducted extensive community research before heading out onto the market and finding the monitors to include in this guide.

How We Picked

To pick the gaming monitors that you’ll see below, we considered the following:

Resolution

The selection of monitors you’ll see below ranges greatly in terms of resolution. You’ll find plenty of options ranging from as low as 1080p to 4K so that you can find the one that best suits your needs.

We decided to exclude any products with a resolution of 720p as that is no longer relevant in today’s gaming landscape.

Screen Size

There’s no secret that gaming monitors range pretty greatly in size. And though most people opt-in for monitors that range in size of between 24″ to 27″, there are those who use 32″ gaming monitors, which might as well be a gaming TV.

Either way, due to the vast range of screen sizes that gamers of today prefer, we made sure to include a variety of great gaming monitors that ranged in size from as low as 24″ all the way to 32″ and anything in-between.

Lighting Type

We know that LED panels are the standard in the gaming industry. They just do the job so well and are pretty inexpensive. As a result of that, we made sure that all of the products in our selection are with LED panels.

And just to clarify, we actually didn’t leave any great monitors out because of their lighting type as a lot of the better options were with LED panels already.

Refresh Rate

The refresh rate of a monitor is one of the most important specs gamers should pay attention to. 60 Hz is no longer good enough if you want to play in the big leagues as it is easily the biggest performance bottleneck after having a cheap gaming PC.

But, if you’re gaming on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or have a PC that simply can’t generate more than 60 FPS in-game, then you shouldn’t go for a monitor that has the capacity to operate at more than 60 Hz as it will be a waste of money.

So, the monitors you’ll see below range from 60 Hz to 360 Hz just so that there is something for everybody regardless of budget and platform played on.

Response Time

Aside from the refresh rate, the response time of your monitor is just as crucial. Having a monitor that responds faster to every action you take in-game will be detrimental to your success.

But, the quicker the monitor is at responding, the more expensive it is, and to be honest if a monitor has a 5ms response time, it’s not a deal-breaker. Yes, you’d want 1ms ideally, but if you can’t get your hands on one, it’s not a big deal.

The monitors we have selected below range in response time but we have made sure that every single product we’ve recommended is good at the very least.

Synchronization Technology

Monitors of today use either FreeSync (developed by AMD) or G-Sync (developed by Nvidia). These synchronization technologies help greatly for minimizing in-game image distortion, stutters, and lags.

They’re great for optimizing your in-game experience and making sure that everything from a graphical perspective is completely flawless.

Some monitors on the market are either FreeSync or G-Gsync. Other higher-end models are compatible with both. The monitor you should go for – at least when it comes to this will depend on what GPU you’re using. Is it from Nvidia or is it from AMD?

Either way, we have provided various options that have both sync technologies so that you can find the best monitor for your circumstances.

Best Budget Gaming Monitor

If you’re looking for the best gaming monitor on a budget, we couldn’t recommend you the AOC G2490VX highly enough. It has everything the average and even pro gamer might need in order to perform well in-game.

The best price at the time of writing was $174.99.

From a visual standpoint, the AOC G249OVX looks phenomenal regardless of the fact that it costs 2x or 3x less than any of our other recommendations on this list. Thanks to its frameless design, you can immerse yourself into the games you play like never before.

It is predominantly wrapped up in black with the exception of the red line that runs across the bottom of the monitor, which looks super sleek. The stand of the monitor is also in black and features a circular shape for added stability on your gaming desk.

As far as the actual specs are concerned, it is a 24″ 1920x1080p monitor with LED backlighting. Pretty standard in the gaming industry. The refresh rate can go as high as 144 Hz while the response time is 1ms.

These two are fantastic. I was surprised that you can get such great specs in a monitor for under $200. No matter if you’re just playing FIFA for fun or want to become the next Call of Duty pro, this monitor can be your partner in doing so without bottlenecking your performance.

As for synchronization technology – it is equipped with FreeSync, meaning that it is predominantly going to be more useful for gamers who have an AMD rig.

In regards to connectivity, you will find 1x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI 1.4, and audio Line-Out for more convenience. If you want to have the monitor mounted to the wall, you can also do that thanks to its VESA mounting capabilities. The monitor supports 100mmx100mm VESA mounts.

You can find the product on Amazon or AOC website.

Best Value For Money Gaming Monitor

The ASUS TUF Gaming is perfect for gamers who are looking to extract the most value for money out of their purchase and we really believe that this monitor does just that.

The best price at the time of writing was $363.99.

The ASUS TUF Gaming monitor features a 3-sided thin-bezel design, that greatly helps towards achieving an immersion effect. On top of that, the 32″ monitor is also curved, which helps with the immersion you’re going to get that much more. It is wrapped up in black throughout and features a pretty standard – square-shaped base that keeps the monitor steady on your desk.

As far as performance, this 2560x1440p TUF Gaming monitor hosts an LED backlighting integrated with FreeSync premium. Similar to our budget pick from above, this product is better for AMD rigs. On top of that, it features extreme motion blue technology in order to make your gaming experience even smoother and lag-free.

The maximum refresh rate you can pull from this monitor is 144 Hz, which is very standard and as for response time, that would be the lighting-fast 1ms. It’s almost impossible to find such specs in a 32″ gaming monitor for this price – hence the reason why we made it our best value pick.

For connectivity, you can find 2x HDMI 2.0 ports, and a single Display Port 1.2. Those are enough to make the most out of the monitor.

At 32″, this isn’t the most portable monitor. You can also find this monitor in 27″. The only difference is that the 27 is a little more expensive but it also has a higher refresh rate, which is set at 165 Hz.

The ASUS TUF Gaming monitor can be purchased directly from Amazon or the ASUS website.

Best Gaming Monitor

If you’re looking for the best gaming monitor on the market today, the Alienware AW2521H is hands down our best pick – and for all the good reasons. It’s affordable and the specs are incredible.

The best price at the time of writing was $415.00.

Before we get into the specs, let’s touch upon the sleek and super impressive design. The monitor itself is wrapped up in smooth matt black or as Alienware calls it – the dark side of the moon. The frames are relatively thin, similar to the ASUS TUF Gaming but the stand is something else.

It is a two-legged stand, which keeps the monitor in place surprisingly well. The backside of the monitor that the stand is mounted on features a cyan LED illumination – the color of Alienware. And by the way, you can customize that to whatever you want.

Now, let’s get into the specs. The monitor itself is 24.5″ of Full HD 1920x1080p resolution. It is G-Sync certified, meaning you can enjoy a smooth and tear-free gaming experience no matter the game at hand.

As for refresh rate, this monitor features an impressive 360 Hz. That’s as smooth and as responsive as monitors get. When combined with the lightning-fast 1ms of response time, we’ll leave the performance you can expect up to your imagination.

And really, the only downside to having such insane specs in a monitor is that you’ll need a super-powerful rig in order to push it to its limits. We’re speaking 360 (minimum FPS) in order to really feel how this monitor is on a different level from anything else on the market.

In terms of adjustability, you can play around with the height-adjustable stand. If you prefer to have the monitor at a certain angle, you can also swivel and tilt it to your liking. And if you want to keep the monitor away from your desk, you can mount it on a wall thanks to its 100mmx100mm VESA compatibility.

If you’re a fan of the Alienware AW2521H, you can buy it from Amazon, Walmart, or the Dell website.

Runner Up

1920×108025″LED360 Hz0.5ms G-SYNC

The MSI Oculux NXG253R is another phenomenal gaming monitor that closely competes with the Alienware AW2521H from above. For that reason, we had to have it as our runner-up pick.

The best price at the time of writing was $590.99.

Visually speaking, the Oculux NXG253R is nothing impressive. In fact, we believe it looks quite cheap for the performance that you can extract from such a great monitor. On the contrary, it does have very narrow bezels, which are always great for better immersion.

The monitor is wrapped up in black and grey and is supported by a rectangular stand. The backside of the monitor is a little bulkier than you could typically expect but honestly, I wouldn’t mind that as I’m all about the performance.

Now, for performance, this 25″ 1920x1080p is powered by an LED backlighting panel, which is also G-Sync certified. You can expect nothing less than a stutter-free and smooth gaming experience.

It can generate a refresh rate of 360 Hz. That’s right, 360 Hz of smoothness – provided your PC can keep up with that of course. In combination with the ultra-fast 0.5ms response time, you’ll have a monitor for many years to come.

This is one of the few monitors on the market that are capable of 360 Hz refresh rate and 0.5ms response time.

If you want the Oculux NXG253R, you can get it either from Amazon or the MSi website.

Other Great Gaming Monitors

Below, you can discover other fantastic monitors that you should take into consideration.

ViewSonic Elite XG270QG 27

2560×144027″LED165 Hz1msG-SYNC

If you couldn’t find a suitable monitor above, then definitely check out the ViewSonic Elite XG270QG 27, which we believe is another above-average 27″ 1440p gaming monitor.

The best price at the time of writing was $599.99.

The ViewSonic Elite hosts a rather sleek design in black. The 27″ screen is supported by a solid and kind of weird-looking but simple stand. The bezels are pretty standard and nothing impressive, which shouldn’t be seen as a drawback. One really nice feature that we really like about this monitor is the RGB illumination at the back, which you can customize to your liking.

As far as performance, this monitor has everything you could expect including a 144 Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time. If you know how to overclock a monitor, then you can easily do that with this model and boost your refresh rate up to 165 Hz.

It is G-Sync certified, which means that if you have an Nvidia rig, you can really optimize your graphics for a smoother and stutter-free gaming experience.

Though unique-looking, the stand is actually pretty flexible. You can height adjust, tilt, and swivel your monitor to your liking.

As for connectivity, this monitor has HDMI, USB, and Display Ports. Unfortunately, with HDMI, you can only get 60 Hz. If you wanted to get up to 144 or 165 (provided you overclock the monitor), then you’ll need to make use of the Display Port.

One drawback to this product is definitely the price and value for money as you can get quite similar specs with cheaper products. But if you do decide to go ahead with this monitor, it won’t be a mistake since it will last you for the years to come.

You can find the product on Amazon or ViewSonic website.

SAMSUNG Odyssey G7

2560×144026.9″LED240 Hz1msG-SYNC

The SAMSUNG Odyssey G7 is an absolute classic when it comes to gaming monitors with thin bezels. It has been and still is one of the favorites in the community thanks to its impressive specs and overall value for money.

The best price at the time of writing was $549.99.

Visually speaking, the Odyssey G7 hosts a very gamer-like design with super thin bezels and a slim two-legged stand. Another obvious feature of this monitor is the curved design, which really makes a big difference in bringing the screen closer to you.

On the backside of the monitor, you’ll find a circular light panel which only adds to the aesthetic of the product.

In terms of specifications, this 27″ 2560x1440p gaming monitor is integrated with both FreeSync and G-Sync technologies, meaning no matter whether you have an AMD or an Nvidia rig, you can make use of the graphic-enhancing features these technologies bring.

As for the refresh rate, you will get 240 Hz. And in combination with the ultra-responsive 1ms response time, you can rest assured that this monitor will take care of all your casual and pro gaming needs for the years to come.

One impressive graphic feature we’d like to mention is that this gaming monitor can really show you the most of everything going on in great depth and detail – no matter if you’re in a dark corridor or are looking straight at the sun in GTA V. And all that is thanks to the HDR 600 and cutting edge QLED technology.

This monitor can be purchased directly from Amazon or the original manufacturer website.

LG 27GL850-B

Resolution Screen Size Lighting Type Refresh Rate Response Time Synchronization
2560×144027″LED144 Hz1msFreeSync

The LG 27GL850-B is our first and only entry of LG in this guide. This model is surprisingly great for what it’s worth in terms of both specs and design, and that was part of the reason why we decided to include it on our list today.

The best price at the time of writing was $396.99.

This monitor hosts one of the thinnest bezel designs that we’ve come across. In combination with the sleek black wrapping throughout, it looks great. Aside from the design, it’s also worth mentioning how adjustable the two-legged stand is. You can pop it up and down as you wish, and tilt and swivel the monitor to your liking.

Besides, if you happen to be a streamer or have a particular use for a vertical screen, then this monitor can be vertically tilted at 90 degrees without compromising on stability.

In terms of performance, this 27″ QHD 2560x1440p monitor is equipped with a Nano IPS LED display with an Nvidia G-Sync certification. This guarantees a tear-free and smooth gaming experience no matter the game at hand.

In terms of the two most important specs, refresh rate and response time, this model can pull 144 Hz and 1ms, which is phenomenal for the price that it comes at. And if the QHD is a bit too much, you can find the Full HD LG 27GN650-B for even cheaper.

It is integrated with the AMD FreeSync premium technology, meaning this monitor is mostly suitable for AMD-powered gaming computers.

You can find this LG model on Amazon or on the LG website.

Best High-End 4K Gaming Monitor

Resolution Screen Size Lighting Type Refresh Rate Response Time Synchronization
3840×216027″LED120 (144) Hz4msG-Sync

If you have a bit more money to spare and really want to take your gaming experience to a whole new level in 4K, then we’d highly recommend you to go for the Acer Predator X27.

The best price at the time of writing was $1799.99.

Visually speaking, it’s great all around. From the two-legged sleek stand to the overall design of the monitor itself, it’s an easy ten out of ten. Unlike any monitor that we’ve covered in this guide, this particular model comes with flaps that you can attach to the side of the monitor to avoid light from shining onto the screen. If you don’t like the idea of them, you don’t have to use them. They’re optional.

Besides, the monitor is wrapped entirely in sleek black with the Predator logo engraved at the bottom bezel.

In terms of actual performance, this 27″ UHG 4K monitor can support a resolution of 3840x2160p at 120 Hz with the potential of overclocking to 144 Hz. In addition, thanks to its G-Sync certification, you can rest assured that your 4K graphics will be entirely stutter and tear-free for the optimal gaming experience.

As for response time, it is at just 4ms, which is incredible for a monitor of this magnitude. The great graphics are achieved thanks to the quantum dot technology and 384 zones that are dynamically controlled to direct backlight where appropriate.

As far as connectivity goes, on the back of this monitor, you’ll find 1x Display Port 1.4, 1x HDMI 2.0, and 4x USB 3.0. As a nice extra, you’ll have all those cables included in the original packaging.

You can find the Acer Predator X27 on Amazon or on the Acer website.

Shopping Tips for Getting Your Next Gaming Monitor

When shopping for your next gaming monitor, there are a few things that you need to pay attention to in order to not only get the best value for money but a monitor that can really meet your needs and expectations.

Standard vs Widescreen – Which is Better?

When it comes to standard vs widescreen monitors, it really depends on your personal preference. I’ve always used standard monitors because I like how they are.

But, if you want to see more in your games, then a widescreen monitor will be a great choice.

As far as performance is concerned, both versions will perform just as well. If you want a widescreen monitor, you should first make sure that the games you’re playing actually support widescreen resolution as otherwise, it will look awkward.

Pay Attention to the Refresh Rate

The refresh rate is probably the second most important spec that you need to pay attention to after graphics when it comes to monitors. The refresh rate of a monitor is basically going to determine how quickly the image on the monitor is going to refresh live.

For example, if you have a 60 Hz monitor and are playing Valorant, the image on your monitor is going to refresh 60 times per second. If you have a 144 Hz monitor, the image will refresh 144 times and so on.

In simple terms, the higher the Hz of a monitor, the smoother gameplay you’ll get, which is really noticeable.

Now, if you’re on PS4 or Xbox One, there is no need to buy a 144 Hz monitor because your platform doesn’t support it. It’s set by default at 60 Hz. On the other hand, if your PC isn’t powerful enough to generate at least 60 FPS in any given game that you play, there is no point in spending money on a 144 Hz monitor.

Don’t Forget About Response Time

The response time of your monitor is just as important as the refresh rate. Having a monitor with a fast response time will help you see your keyboard and mouse or controller actions in-game quicker. This split second is crucial in any video game, especially FPS games like CoD and R6.

For a gaming monitor, you want a response time of a maximum of 5ms. Anything over that would be a little bit too much and will seriously bottleneck your performance, especially if you want to become a pro e-sports player.

You can find very affordable 5ms or less in response time monitors, so there is no reason for you to get a monitor with a high response time.

Now, as far as picking between a monitor with 1ms or less, it really doesn’t make a difference. The difference is so small that the human brain cannot even process the difference that that quick anyway.

Picking the Right Gaming Monitor for Your Needs

If after all this, you’re still unsure on the gaming monitor that you want to go for, in this section, I will provide you with three highly-relevant scenarios – each outlining the best monitor for a different case.

Scenario 1: Let’s suppose you’re on a budget but would still like to get your hands on a monitor that won’t bottleneck your in-game performance. Despite the low price you’re willing to pay, you still want a decent product that will not only be acceptable in today’s gaming environment but also for the future.

In this case, the best gaming monitor would be our budget pick, the AOC G2490VX.

Scenario 2: You’ve got your hands on a high-end gaming PC and would really love to try out gaming in 4K. As a result, you’re after the best 4K gaming monitor on the market today.

For this scenario, we believe that the best product that will solve all of your needs today and for the future is the Acer Predator X27.

Scenario 3: You are a gamer that loves playing games and want to take your gaming experience and immersion one step closer. You don’t want to spend too much money but would also like a top-end gaming monitor that will last you for the years to come.

In this case, we believe that you could benefit from the curved ASUS TUF Gaming.

Final Thoughts

Getting your hands on a great gaming monitor will not only make your gaming experience a whole lot more enjoyable but will also help you perform better in-game. As you saw from above, there are monitors across all price brackets and you really don’t have to spend a lot of money to get your hands on something decent.

Aside from the above monitors, there are some that we did not include, which we believe deserve at least an honorable mention. Those include the Samsung C32HG70, Acer Predator XB271HK, and Dell S-Series S2719DGF.
