Combat in Splatoon 3 is fast-paced, fluid, and fun. There are heaps of weapons and sub weapons to play with in this game, each with their own perks and unique play styles.

If you’re looking to unlock more weapons in Splatoon 3, you’re going to need to get your hands on some Sheldon Licenses. This unique currency can be found in a few ways in the game, but it can be hard to track them down at first.

To help you fill out your weapon collection, I’ve put together this quick and easy guide on how to get Sheldon Licenses in Splatoon 3.

What’s your favorite weapon so far in Splatoon 3? I’m a big fan of the Dualie Squelchers, but the Tri-Stringer is a lot of fun as well. Feel free to let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear what you’re enjoying about the game.

What Are Sheldon Licenses?

Sheldon Licenses are a type of in-game currency that can be turned in at the Splatoon 3 weapon store, Ammo Knights, in exchange for new weapons.

Some weapons require multiple Sheldon Licenses in order to unlock them, but the majority of the ones that you’ll find as you start your leveling process will only require one.

You can check how many Sheldon Licenses you have by looking at the top right hand corner of the screen when you’re in Ammo Knights.

You can’t get a refund on weapons that you’ve bought in Splatoon 3, so make sure that you test out the weapons before buying them.

How to Get Sheldon Licenses in Splatoon 3

Getting your hands on Sheldon Licenses can be a bit grindy in places, but there’s two key ways of doing it which can ease up the workload. They both essentially revolve around you leveling up quickly in Splatoon 3 and working your way through plenty of matches.

Increase Your Player Level

The first way that you can get Sheldon Licenses is to simply increase your player level, by taking part in multiplayer matches. These could be Turf Battles or any variation of Anarchy Battles, and could involve you playing with random players or playing with your friends.

You’ll get one Sheldon License for each new level that you reach, meaning that the more expensive weapons in Ammo Knights will take a little while to unlock.

To help increase your player level quicker, I’d highly recommend getting your hands on some food items from the Crab-N-Go food vendor in the main lobby. These tasty snacks come with lots of bonuses that can streamline the leveling up process.

For example, the Pescatariat Royale doubles the amount of XP that you receive from 20 matches. It’s a huge boost, and can help you level quicker and reap the rewards.

You’ll need to look into how to get food tickets in Splatoon 3, but it’s worth the effort as these items can make the game much more enjoyable and help you get your hands on Sheldon Licenses much quicker too.

Increase Weapon Freshness Level

Another way to get Sheldon Licenses in Splatoon 3 is to raise the Freshness level of your chosen weapon.

To do this, all you need to do is keep using the same weapon during online matches and winning. Freshness is essentially a score for your proficiency with that weapon, so you’ll increase it quicker by winning matches and shooting/attacking successfully often.

You can check what your weapon Freshness score is when you open up the pre-match menu, as it’ll be shown to the right hand side of your character.

I’d recommend testing Splatoon 3 weapons before purchasing them, and trying to find a style of weapon that fits your play style. More often than not, there’ll be a class (like dualies or sloshers) that fits your preferred way to play, and this’ll make raising the Freshness level much more fun and efficient for you.

How to Get Gold Sheldon Licenses in Splatoon 3

Gold Sheldon Licenses are a rare and valuable currency in Splatoon 3, and they can’t be found in the same way as regular Sheldon Licenses.

Gold Sheldon Licenses allow you to immediately unlock a weapon, no matter what level requirement it has or how much it costs. It’s an incredibly quick and easy way to get a powerful weapon in the Splatoon 3 early game.

The only way to get Gold Sheldon Licenses in Splatoon 3 is to import your Splatoon 2 data when you boot up the game for the first time. This process begins automatically when you open Splatoon 3 as a new player, as the game will scan for any existing data.

If there is Splatoon 2 data, you’ll receive a nice chunk of rewards which include three Gold Sheldon Licenses, immediate access to Ranked Matches, and the ability to skip through the tutorial for the Salmon Run game mode.

These three Gold Sheldon Licenses are the only ones accessible in the game, so they’re worth being mindful with. Again, I’d highly recommend testing out any weapons and getting a feel for them before you spend your Gold Sheldon Licenses.
