Zelda games are famous for having a wide variety of incredible weapons and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is no different.

The game is full of interesting weapons and abilities (some of which will be very familiar to seasoned fans) and one of the first things you’ll want to do when you start playing is learn how to change between them when needed.

Here’s a quick guide on how to change weapons in Tears of the Kingdom.

How to Equip New Weapons

To start, you’ll need to make sure that the item you want to equip can actually be a weapon. While that might sound obvious, there are several items in Tears of the Kingdom that you might not expect to be able to use in combat.

Open up your main inventory by hitting the plus button.

From there, head to the weapons tab.

Then, simply pick which weapon you want from your inventory with the cursor and use the A button to select it.

You can rotate Link’s character model to see what the weapon looks like by pressing and holding down R.

If you’re unsure about which weapon to equip, double check what it says in the tooltip below Link. These bite-sized pieces of information often give a nod to durability and attack style.

There’s no need to save your changes, you can simply exit straight back out of the menu using the B button when you’ve picked your weapon.

Where to Find More Weapons

One of the easiest ways to find more weapons when playing Tears of the Kingdom is to simply keep an eye out while you’re exploring the various Sky Islands and Hyrulian zones.

This is a vibrant game with lots of collectibles and treasures to pick up. Much like Breath of the Wild, you’re sure to come across various treasure chests, random world drops, and secret rewards while exploring.

Make sure to pick up any back-up weapons that you might need, too.

Durability is a factor to be mindful of in this game and, while a tree branch might not seem like an ideal pick, it can get you out of a difficult battle if all else fails.

Progressing with the story is another way to increase your arsenal and get your hands on more weapons. I won’t spoil the story, but there are some incredible boss fights throughout this game, complete with some very lucrative rewards.

Using Amiibos is another way to get your hands on extra weapons and rewards, although this is something you have to unlock by progressing in the game.

What to Do Next

Once you’ve picked out which weapon you want to use, why not spend some time practicing your combat skills? Knowing how to dodge, hop, and crouch effectively may seem simple, but practicing against low-level mobs can give you an edge in battle.

Being able to throw items at enemies is another useful tactic to bear in mind.

Make sure to keep up to date with your armor, too. Get rid of any old pieces to give yourself more inventory space wherever possible, and watch out for hidden treasure chests that might contain new gear as you go.
