In Tears of the Kingdom, you unlock a wide variety of abilities for Link by progressing through the world and clearing different Shrines and puzzles.

One of the most interesting abilities that you’ll get quite early on in the game is the ability to Fuse objects together, by solving the In-isa Shrine. This ability can strengthen your weapons and shields with unique abilities, depending on the materials you choose.

Sometimes, Fusing doesn’t go to plan, though. The ability can take a little time to get the hang of and it’s frustrating if you end up Fusing an important material and needing it later on.

Here’s a quick guide on how to Unfuse items in Tears of the Kingdom, looking at two different ways to get the job done.

How to Destroy Fused Ingredients

To start, pick out the item that you want to Unfuse.

This could be any Fused weapon or shield, and you can follow this process at any point during the game. It’s important to note that Unfusing an item will automatically destroy the Fused ingredient and switch the weapon or shield back to its original state.

For example, if you have a sword Fused with a log to make a Log Club, you will lose the log in the Unfusing process.

Open up your inventory to begin the process and select the item that you want to Unfuse.

Then, pick ‘destroy Fused ingredient’ from the drop-down menu.

This will delete the Fused ingredient immediately, meaning you can exit the menu and start using the original weapon or shield without needing to do anything else.

The original weapon or shield will be in the same state that it was in before you Fused it. If it was in a bad way before you Fused it, it will still be in the same state of durability.

How to Unfuse Items Without Losing Ingredients

If you’ve Fused a valuable item to a shield or weapon, don’t worry- there’s a way to Unfuse items without losing any materials. You will unlock it after beating the Great Sky Island section, though, so it’s not immediately available.

To Unfuse, you’ll need to head to Tarrey Town and find the NPC Pelison. Pelison can be found in the City Square.

Simply speak to Pelison and you’ll be able to Unfuse a shield or weapon for 20 Rupees.

It’s quite expensive to Unfuse items, so make sure you’re certain before changing up a new weapon or shield. Earning Rupees in Tears of the Kingdom can take a fair amount of time, especially earlier on in the game.

What to Do Next

While you’re in Tarrey Town, make sure to explore more and speak to the locals. There are some great quests that you can finish in this zone, and some particularly interesting ways to use your Ultra Hand ability from the first Shrine in the game.

Keep an eye out for nearby treasure chests and mini puzzles, too.

The world in Tears of the Kingdom is vast and there are plenty of treasures to pick up, including weapons, new kinds of armor, and useful attachments for your next Fused item.
