Although skill is more important than gear in Final Fantasy 16, you can always count on crafting to make the game easier.
While some recipes are available right from the start, others require specific conditions to be met, such as completing side quests or advancing through the main storyline.
Crafting becomes much more important during New Game +, where the game becomes much harder than the Action-Focused mode.

Craft Recipes
Although there are any items that you can craft in Final Fantasy 16, you start the game with access to all of them.
Depending on the items, you might be required to finish an important side quest first.
For instance, items like the Excalibur or the Ouroboros belt require you to unlock blueprints and bring them to Blackthorne.
Meanwhile, other craft recipes might just be locked behind main quest progression.
As long as you’re not trying to craft a unique item, you will see it for crafting at the Black Hammer. Then, you can just look for the craft materials needed to make them.

Reinforcement Recipes
Besides crafting, players can also reinforce their gear to make them better.
Sometimes, a reinforced weapon can be stronger than a unique Eikon. However, until you manage to craft the Gotterdammerung, there will always be a better weapon to be found or made.
