World of Warcraft has a heap of beautiful zones to explore, and The Dragon Isles are certainly memorable. They’re part of the Dragonflight expansion and are worth checking out if you haven’t played through them already.

It can be a little confusing to get to them at first, though, especially if you’ve not experienced anything in the Dragonflight expansion yet. To help you start your adventure in the Dragon Isles, I’ve put together this guide for both factions.

Here’s how to get to the Dragon Isles in WoW Dragonflight, including how to get to the Dragon Isles from Stormwind and Orgrimmar.

Before You Start

In order to get to the Dragon Isles, you’ll need to make sure that you have purchased the Dragonflight expansion and that you’re at least level 58. If you haven’t met these requirements, you won’t be able to go to the Dragon Isles.

If this is your first time heading into Dragonflight, it’s worth having a look at which addons you’re using and how your HUD is looking before setting out, to make sure that you’re prepared for the new expansion.

How to Get to the Dragon Isles From Stormwind

To get to the Dragon Isles from Stormwind, you’ll need to make sure that you’ve completed the quest The Dragon Isles Await. This quest will appear in your quest log automatically when you log in.

You’ll need to meet Wrathion and Turalyon in Stormwind Keep and learn more about the Aspect’s Invitation to the Alliance. There’s some exposition that happens, essentially filling you in on what happened between the Shadowlands storyline and present day in World of Warcraft.

After this, you’ll need to complete the quests Aspectral Invitation, Expeditionary Coordination, and The Obsidian Warders. These quests are simple to follow along with, and will involve you delivering orders and recruiting people for the mission to the Dragon Isles.

Then, you’ll need to complete Whisper on the Winds and speak to Khadgar in Stormwind, then complete Chasing Storms and speak to Storm Hunter William.

Once you’ve finished up this quest line, you’ll get the quest To the Dragon Isles! and be able to board the Rugged Dragonscale, which will take you to the Dragon Isles.

Make sure you get on the right boat. The boat to Boralus also visits the dock that the Rugged Dragonscale sails from, and it’s easy to get them confused.

If you’ve already been to the Dragon Isles and you’re looking to go back there without using a Mage portal or Hearthstone, simply head back to the docks. You can check in with the Dock Master on where the boat is if you’re in a hurry.

How to Get to the Dragon Isles From Orgrimmar

To get to the Dragon Isles from Orgrimmar, you’ll need to finish the quest The Dragon Isles Await. This quest will appear when you log in.

You’ll need to meet Embyssian in Orgrimmar for this. You’ll learn about everything relating to the time between Shadowlands and present day WoW.

Then, you’ll need to finish the quests Aspectral Invitation, Expeditionary Coordination, and The Dark Talons. This is essentially identical to the Alliance quest line listed above and it will focus on you delivering orders and recruiting people for the mission.

You’ll then need to complete Whispers on the Winds and speak to Khadgar, then Chasing Storms which requires you to speak to Storm Hunter Suhrakka on the zeppelin tower outside of Orgrimmar.

After this, you’ll get the quest To the Dragon Isles! and be able to board the Defiant Dragonscale, which is the zeppelin that takes you to the Dragon Isles. Double check it’s the correct zeppelin before you board.

To get back to the Dragon Isles without a Mage portal or Hearthstone, simply head back to the zeppelin tower and you’ll be able to board the Defiant Dragonscale again.

What to Do Next

Once you get to The Dragon Isles, you’ll be able to explore each new zone and get involved with the main campaign. I’d recommend taking a look at some speed leveling methods if you’re looking to hit end-game content quickly.

If you’re a PVE fan, I would also suggest having a look at M+ dungeon strategies as M+ dungeons are a great way to test your skills and get your hands on some gear as you progress throughout The Dragon Isles.
