Cyberpunk 2077 promises gamers a variety of gaming experiences. Set in the future, the possibilities of exploration, discovery, and living through different stories are endless.

Much like similar games like GTA V, the game offers us fans of the genre option to explore the vast contours of the game from the perspective of multiple characters.

In Cyberpunk 2077, these different perspectives are called lifepaths.

Cyberpunk 2077’s lifepaths allow you to choose a backstory for your character right at the start of the game. This influences the situations you find yourself in, the progression of the story, choice of quests and missions in the fictional, futuristic city the game is set in.

In this guide, I’ll help you make an informed decision about which lifepath you should choose based on your interests and preferences.

The Streetkid

cyberpunk 2077 paths streetkid

This lifepath in Cyberpunk 2077 allows you to play as a kid from a futuristic ghetto looking to find the next big job to break through the ever-present strata in society. Your character is from a town called Heywood who is part of a friendly yet financially challenged part of a town riddled with gang violence. You are the kid everyone knows in the neighborhood and you can use this to gain favors or pave your way to the riches Night City has to offer.

Your character gets his big break when he gets a job helping out the town elite with some ‘dirty-work.’ Much like Frankin in GTA V, your character does not shy away from getting his hands dirty as he knows the struggle people from his neighborhood have to go through to get rich fast.

As a streetkid you will have to fight your way through shady deals, get into drag races, burgle houses, meet questionable people in shady bars and strike up underground deals to get weapons. There is a constant threat of cops targeting you in this lifepath. If you love being the rebel and don’t mind a high profile robbery or a shoot up, this is for you. Loved being the worst outlaw in RDR 2 or running over townsfolk in GTA V – this path is for you.

The Nomad

Part of a desert-dwelling hippie clan, your character feels disenfranchised from the futuristic lawless concrete jungle that is Night city. The clan that lives in the Californian wasteland make their money growing synthetic corn. They dance around bonfires at night and are a closely-knit community that very vary of any external interferences from the big city.

They also love burning rubber in the desert. Using scrap parts, they put together mean racing machines and drift across the desert sands at high speeds. This lifepath in Cyberpunk 2077 promises a lot of shady deals, help from family, and racing. Living outside the city you have more freedom to explore and pick the way you choose to progress in the story. There are many different ways you can approach this lifepath. You can be a carefree mercenary who only cares about family or an ambitious outsider who will grab opportunities to squeeze out success in the big city.

If you loved the Trevor mission sin GTA V, the nomad lifepath will be a great option for you. Defying rules and taking your own unique, tough approach to life, you can try to take over the Night city with the confidence that comes with conquering the desert terrain.

The Corpo

cyberpunk 2077 lifepath corpo

Dream of a skyscraper life, want to be at the top of everything that happens, and quietly pull the strings of the city while churning out the dollars? This Corpo lifepath in Cyberpunk 2077 will be the best choice for you.

Affluence and wealth are abundant, but your desire to take over still remains. As a high flyer in the Arasaka Corporation, your banking career has made your life comfortable and beyond the reach of the street dwellers. But, it comes with its own set of risks. A lot of pressure to improve profits puts you in a place where you have to take risks you normally wouldn’t. Angering other rich folk put a target on your head which you will have to shake.

With plenty of power-struggle and corporate espionage, this lifepath offers you a vastly different playing experience compared to the other two. If you love puppeteering goons and getting things done without getting your hands dirty, this is the path for you. This is the most unique lifepath but might be very underutilized as gamers might prefer to experience the grind of making it big. But, do not underestimate the thrills corporate life has to offer as you will be forced into positions that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
