Axolotls are adorable aquatic mobs that come in several pretty colors. These mobs are usually passive and can be found in caves.
They’re great to have around and are also avid hunters of almost every other aquatic mob in Minecraft.
To find them, though, you’ll need to do quite a bit of searching and be ready to go exploring deep caves.
Once you find them, you’re bound to want to breed them and have more of them around. In this article, we’ll look at how to breed axolotls in Minecraft easily.
Finding Axolotls
Axolotls are mobs that can be found exclusively underground in the lush cave biome.
This biome is very unique and it is known for the extensive flora that grows inside it. It is most commonly known as being the only place in the game where you can find azalea trees.
Azalea trees are also the key to finding these biomes. They will grow above ground with rooted dirt going deep underground until it reaches the lush cave.
Among axolotls, you can also find glowsquid and bats spawning here. It is also the only place where you can find and harvest glow berries.
Taming Axolotls
Axolotls are not like many of the land mobs in Minecraft.
Unlike dogs, cats, horses, and others, axolotls can’t be tamed. They can be fed, but it will not make them loyally follow you.
To transport axolotls you will need to use a bucket to capture them. This will turn your bucket into a bucket of axolotl, letting you safely transport the mob.
Simply releasing the water from the bucket will release the axolotl.
You will want to prepare an axolotl enclosure ahead of time. This way, the axolotls can’t wander off and disappear.
Breeding Axolotls
Feeding and breeding axolotls is pretty unique compared to most other mobs.
For example, while breeding cats requires you to catch a type of fish and feed it to them, axolotls will not settle for any regular fish.
Axolotls will only eat live tropical fish.
To feed your axolotls the fish you will have to catch them with a bucket, creating a bucket of tropical fish.
Then, approach your axolotls and click on them with the bucket.
Make sure to not accidentally release the fish into the water. If you do, the axolotls will kill them, without entering love mode.
If you have successfully fed the axolotl you will see heart particles appear around it, signaling that it has entered love mode. Then, feed the other axolotl you have nearby.
The two will then spawn a baby axolotl.
Axolotl Colors
The color of your baby axolotl will entirely depend on the two parent axolotls.
The chances of which color the baby will inherit are equal for both parents, but there is a small chance that the baby could come out blue.
If one of the parent axolotls isn’t blue already, there is a 0.083% chance that the baby will be blue. If one of the parents is blue then the chances will be higher of getting a blue baby axolotl
