If you played Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you’ll have known that the game had heaps of clothing and accessory options for players to choose from. Players expected this from Pokémon Violet & Scarlet, but sadly, this was not the case.

Although you don’t have access to the same number of cosmetic options, you can still change outfits and hairstyles in this game. There are some cool collectibles and other cosmetic items too, like Rotom Phone cases.

Changing your look in this iteration of Pokémon is quite different to how it’s been in previous games. This is why we decided to put together a guide that explains how to change your appearance in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

How to Change Your Outfit

Customize Outfit 1

Hit left on your D-Pad to open the customization menu. There, you will find multiple outfit options. There are only four options to pick from.

This is a massive disappointment if you were hoping to see a similar range of options to Pokémon Legends: Arceus or other previous games of the franchise that had a more robust customization system.

Although the act of changing outfits was a bit annoying in the previous Pokémon game, it did provide a lot more for players to choose from.

In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, we can switch outfits quickly and easily. That being said, what we gain in convenience, we lose in cosmetic options. Although there aren’t many outfits, you can also change gloves, glasses, backpacks, and even your shoes.

Once you hit left on your D-Pad, the game will open a menu in which you can check what items you have. Using your D-Pad, you can change the tab. Each tab has some of the accessories you can equip on your character.

There’s also the option to change your hairstyle and other characteristics of your character. In order to do that, you must first hit the ‘+’ key on your controller. From here, you’ll be able to change the physical appearance of your character.

Can You Get More Outfits?

Unfortunately, no.

The game doesn’t introduce any new outfits besides the school uniform and its variations. It feels like Pokémon Violet and Pokémon Scarlet want the players to always be dressed as members of a renowned school where students wear uniforms.

It is a shame to see such a lack of cosmetic options in the game, especially after playing a game like PLA and getting to unlock cool outfits with save data from other games.

Many fans expected a game with more options than PLA, and many felt let down by the lack of options. Pokémon Violet & Scarlet did use some aspects of the previous open-world game, but not as many as some would have wanted.

It is possible that we could see new costumes and outfits being added in at a later date, though, especially if there is any DLC for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet on the horizon.

What to Do Next

Once you’ve found an outfit and set of accessories that you like, have a look at changing your profile card to show off your new look. The profile feature is deceptively simple and it’s nice to have an extra option to show off your character.

If you’re a completionist and want to get every accessory and clothing item in the game, you’ll want to look up some money farming methods for Pokémon Violet & Scarlet. There are plenty of ways to earn lots of money in the game, and you’ll need to get farming if you want to have every possible item in the game.
