In many ways, FC 24 is different from all the FIFA games that have been released in the past, including FIFA 23. One of the major changes is the introduction of playstyles as a replacement for traits.
These playstyles make players feel even more unique on the ball compared to each other, trying to mirror the way that each player plays in real life as much as possible.
In FC 24 player career, you can also create a unique player with a unique selection of playstyles according to your preferences. However, you should know that certain playstyles are more effective for certain positions and roles than others.
This guide discusses the best playstyles for all the major positions and roles in FC24. If you’re not yet familiar with how playstyles work in the game, click that link to our detailed guide on the topic. If you’re already familiar, then you’re ready to dive into this one.
Best Playstyles for Defenders
Central Defender
The following playstyles are recommended for a traditional center back whose main duty is to defend. The Jockey playstyle is extremely effective for any defensive role in FC 24, so I would unlock that first.
The top three playstyles for a central defender are:
Aerial: Better aerial presence and higher jumps
Jockey: Increases the maximum speed of speed jockeying and the speed of transition from jockey to sprint
Block: Increases reach when performing a block and increases the chances of success
After unlocking the top three, fill up the remaining four slots with Anticipate, Intercept, Bruiser, Slide Tackle.
Attacking Fullback
The attacking fullback is a player who looks to contribute regularly in attacking phases of play despite technically being part of the defensive line. Since this player operates on the flank, it’s important to be quick and be able to whip good crosses in.
The recommended playstyles for this role are:
Jockey: Increases the maximum speed of speed jockeying and the speed of transition from jockey to sprint
Rapid: Increases sprint speed while dribbling and reduces error while sprinting
Whipped Pass: Increases the accuracy, curve, and speed of crosses
After unlocking the top three, fill up the remaining four slots with Anticipate, Relentless, Quick Step, Long Throw
Defensive Fullback
The defensive fullback, as the name suggests, must focus on defense first before contributing to the attack. Hence, you need to prioritize unlocking defensive playstyles that will make this player hard to beat for wingers.
The Bruiser playstyle is particularly great for bullying wingers as they will generally be smaller in size, especially if you play with the newly introduced Advanced Defending. The top three recommended playstyles for this role are:
Jockey: Increases the maximum speed of speed jockeying and the speed of transition from jockey to sprint
Bruiser: Increases strength when performing physical tackles
Anticipate: Increases the chances of stopping the ball at the player’s feet during a standing tackle
After unlocking the top three, fill up the remaining four slots with Slide Tackle, Block, Rapid, Intercept
Best Playstyles for Midfielders
Defensive Midfielder
The defensive midfielder obviously needs to have strong defensive playstyles, but the Long Ball Pass is also great if you’re the type of player who likes to dictate the tempo of the game or change the picture of an attack with one pass.
The top three recommended playstyles for this role are:
Long Ball Pass: Increases the accuracy, speed, and interception difficulty for lobbed and lofted-through passes
Slide Tackle: Increases the chances of stopping the ball at the player’s feet during a slide tackle
Intercept: Increases reach and the chances of completing successful interceptions while retaining possession of the ball
After unlocking the top three, fill up the remaining four slots with First Touch, Power Shot, Tiki Taka, Pinged Pass
Box to Box Midfielder
Ideally, the Relentless playstyle should be the number one priority for this role but for some reason, it is not included as one of the options for the central midfield position.
The Technical playstyle is important because a box-to-box midfielder will often have to drive forward with the ball, and you’ll lose possession easily without the extra control that the playstyle offers.
Additionally, a box-to-box midfielder will often find themselves on the edge of the box when a cross is about to come in, so the Power Shot playstyle is great for taking long-range shots from those positions.
The top three recommended playstyles for this role are:
Technical: Increases speed during controlled sprints and allows precise wide turns while dribbling
Power Shot: Faster power shot animations
Intercept: Increases reach and the chances of completing successful interceptions while retaining possession of the ball
After unlocking the top three, fill up the remaining four slots with Tiki-Taka, Slide Tackle, Incisive Pass, First Touch
Playmaker/Attacking Midfielder
The most important playstyles for a playmaker are passing playstyles, which explains the selection here.
If your player is a CAM, you might want to replace the Technical playstyle with the Trickster. An attacking midfielder generally has less space to work with, so you would be better off with a playstyle that helps you maneuver tight, controlled movements rather than sprints.
The top three recommended playstyles for this role are:
Incisive Pass: Faster ground passes without making trapping harder for the receiver
Technical: Increases speed during controlled sprints and allows precise wide turns while dribbling
Tiki Taka: Increases the accuracy of first-time ground passes and contextually uses backheeled passes
After unlocking the top three, fill up the remaining four slots with Pinged Pass, Trickster, Dead Ball, First Touch
Best Playstyles for Wingers
Defensive Winger
The role that would be most suitable if you’re playing in a team that sets up defensively, especially one with 5 players at the back.
Intercept is the most useful defensive playstyle available for this position, and the top three playstyles go thus:
Long Ball Pass: Increases the accuracy, speed, and interception difficulty for lobbed and lofted through passes.
Intercept: Increases reach and the chances of completing successful interceptions while retaining possession of the ball
Whipped Pass: Increases the accuracy, curve, and speed of crosses
After unlocking the top three, fill up the remaining four slots with Quick-Step, Technical, Slide Tackle, Incisive Pass
Traditional Winger
The traditional winger is the typical “run down the line and cross” type of player. This is why we have the Technical playstyle for more controlled sprints that make it harder for the fullback to get the ball off you, and the Whipped Pass for better crosses.
The top three recommended playstyles for this role are:
Technical: Increases speed during controlled sprints and allows precise wide turns while dribbling
Quick-Step: Faster acceleration during explosive sprints
Whipped Pass: Increases the accuracy, curve, and speed of crosses
After unlocking the top three, fill up the remaining four slots with First Touch, Trickster, Incisive Pass, Long Ball Pass
Inside Forward
The inside forward is the more popular version of the winger we see in modern football. It’s a pretty popular role in modern football that many of the best players in FC 24 play.
This player functions almost like an extra striker, which explains the need for prioritizing the Trivela scoring playstyle.
The Trickster and Technical playstyles will also be very useful as you’ll be driving the ball into crowded defensive areas regularly unlike the traditional winger who can often just beat a man with pace on the flanks.
Trickster: Unique skill move animations
Technical: Increases speed during controlled sprints and allows precise wide turns while dribbling
Trivela: Triggers outside foot shots and passes contextually
After unlocking the top three, fill up the remaining four slots with Tiki-Taka, Incisive Pass, First Touch, Acrobatic
Best Playstyles for Strikers
Target Man
The target man is often a big man up front that teams with a long ball tactic can use as a focal point of attack.
The Power Header makes this player deadly from set-pieces; the First Touch is great for holding on to the ball when a long ball is played in, and Acrobatic is also great for first-time finishes from half-chances.
Power Header: Performs headers with increased accuracy
First Touch: Increases the speed and accuracy of trapping the ball first-time and transitioning to dribbling with better control
Acrobatic: Improved accuracy with volleys and access to acrobatic volley animations
After unlocking the top three, fill up the remaining four slots with Trivela, Tiki-Taka, Power Shot, Incisive Pass
Advanced Striker
The Advanced Striker is a traditional strike role for a player who likes to “Get in Behind” and get on the end of passes that put him/her through one-on-one with the keeper. The most important attributes to have for this role are pace and shooting.
The Quick Step and Technical playstyles help to achieve some extra control with that pace, while the First Touch is useful for keeping possession finding a good shooting angle after beating defenders with pace and getting to the ball.
Technical: Increases speed during controlled sprints and allows precise wide turns while dribbling
First Touch: Increases the speed and accuracy of trapping the ball first-time and transitioning to dribbling with better control
Quick-Step: Faster acceleration during explosive sprints
After unlocking the top three, fill up the remaining four slots with Trivela, Power Shot, Acrobatic, Flair
False 9
The False Nine is a creative forward often deployed alongside wingers acting as inside forwards. This player will often drop deep to create chances for themselves and their teammates, which is why the passing playstyles are important.
The Technical playstyle is also important for driving into the opponent’s box within the attacking third since this player will be spending more time deeper than the typical striker.
Incisive Pass: Faster ground passes without making trapping harder for the receiver
Technical: Increases speed during controlled sprints and allows precise wide turns while dribbling
Tiki-Taka: Increases the accuracy of first-time ground passes and contextually uses backheeled passes
After unlocking the top three, fill up the remaining four slots with Trickster, Trivela, First Touch, Pinged Pass
