The Open Sky Titan, Bombirdier, is one of the Path of Legends Pokemon that you need to finish to complete the main story in Pokemon Violet & Scarlet.
If you are having a hard time with it, you may be under-leveled or using the wrong type of Pokemon. Don’t worry too much, though, as it’s still possible to tackle this challenge and we’ll be looking at the best techniques in this article.
Here’s how to beat the Open Sky Titan in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, including an overview of the rewards you get after the battle.
Where is the Open Sky Titan?
If you head west from the Academy, you will encounter the first gym area. Once you beat the first gym, you have the option to continue heading West, move to the East of the academy, or move to the South of the Academy.
If you continue heading West, you should see a point of interest coming up. You will arrive at a mountain and see that rocks are rolling down the hill. Go up the hill mounted on your legendary Pokemon and avoid the rocks.
The rocks will stun you if you get hit. This isn’t a big deal, though, as it won’t send you back to the start of the mountain. You can keep going.
Once you reach the peak, you will enter a cutscene for the Bombirdier fight.
Preparing for the Battle
Bombirdier is a Flying and Dark type Pokemon.
This makes it a tricky fight regardless of which starter Pokemon you have, but if you have Sprigatito (Grass-type), it’s an especially hard fight. Quaxly and Fuecoco are neutral against Bombirdier, but Sprigatito is weak to it.
To prepare for Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan, you need to be at least at level 19-22 with a few Pokemon on your lineup.
If you have Sprigatito, you should be aiming for around levels 21-25. However, at this point in the story, you should have a few Pokemon already.
There are a lot of Bug type Pokemon near the starting area, and you can use them to fight Bombirdier because Bug type Pokemon are strong against Dark type Pokemon.
Make sure to bring some Super Potions and a couple of Revives, especially if you have lower level Pokemon that are weak to Bombirdier.
How to Beat Bombirdier
Bombirdier’s move set is:
- Wing Attack
- Pluck
- Rock Throw
- Torment
Even though Bombirdier is a Flying/Dark type Pokemon, the Torment move is a Dark type move that doesn’t deal any damage. You just have to worry about Rock Throw and the two Flying attacks.
If you have a decent Bug type Pokemon, the fight should be a piece of cake.
For Fuecoco and Quaxly starters, you can easily survive two to three attacks and change Pokemon when it gets dangerous.
Use healing items on your starter while using other Pokemon as bait to recover.
Repeat the process until you beat Bombirdier.
After beating Bombirdier, it will go and break the rock to eat and recover. After this, you’ll go back into another battle with it but this time, Arven will be there to assist. Arven can essentially solo the fight because he always uses a strong Pokemon type against the Titan Pokemon.
What Happens After Beating Bombirdier?
After beating Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan, you will receive a message on your Rotom phone that will tell you about how to surf with your legendary Pokemon.
This is great if you’re a completionist and looking to fill out the Pokedex, as there are some Pokemon that you can only get on the water or in hard-to-reach areas surrounded by rivers. It also makes traversing the map a lot easier.
