Football Manager 2023 involves more than just selecting strategies and building teams. It’s about rising to the occasion and making history while forging your own path.

That said, you can’t forge any path to managerial greatness if you can’t run the game in the first place.

Here you’ll find the minimum requirements for Football Manager 2023 and additional hardware recommendations for running the game.

FM23 Minimum PC Requirements

The official game page on Steam doesn’t include any recommended requirements, only minimum requirements.

Windows

  • CPU: Intel Core 2 or AMD Athlon 64 X2
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
  • GPU: Intel GMA X4500, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, AMD/ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 – 256MB VRAM
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 7GB of available space

Mac

  • CPU: Apple M1 or Intel Core M
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Operating System: 11
  • GPU: Apple M1, Intel HD Graphics 5000, NVIDIA GeForce GT 70M – 256 VRAM – Metal
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 7GB of available space

The requirements haven’t changed since the previous edition, so if you could play that then you should be good here in theory.

Since the requirements are not very demanding, one might argue that as long as your computer has a 64-bit operating system, it can run the game without any issues. After all, the visuals and technical performance of the game are not a priority because it is a team management simulator.

However, the game can become very demanding depending on how you play it.

Since Football Manager is a management simulator, the game is mostly about how much information it can process at once and how long it takes.

Football Manager allows players to tweak the amount of information the game stores and uses.

Active leagues contain more players and are simulated in greater detail, allowing you to see more stats. The more leagues that you set as active during game setup, the longer the wait between turns.

In other words, you can choose how much the game has to simulate (after a minimum amount) which directly impacts loading times.

For that reason, having an SSD or NVMe and 8GB of Ram will make the game run much faster than usual.

Here are my recommendations for a smooth experience when playing Football Manager 2023:

FM23 Recommended Requirements

Windows

  • CPU: Intel Core 5 or AMD Ryzen 5 5500
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit
  • GPU: Intel GMA X4500, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, AMD/ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 – 256MB VRAM
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: SSD or NVMe

Mac

  • CPU: Apple M1
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Operating System: 11
  • GPU: Apple M1, Intel HD Graphics 5000, NVIDIA GeForce GT 70M, – 256 VRAM – Metal
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: SSD or NVMe

Although more RAM is always better, having 8GB makes the game run significantly faster.

Having the game installed in an SSD drive and enough RAM will significantly improve your experience with this title.

On top of 8GB RAM and an SSD or NVMe, please note that I recommend an i5 CPU if you play on Windows.

A good CPU is also one of the things that will help your computer to process information faster. Since this is basically what Football Manager is, an i5 will undoubtedly improve your loading times.

Don’t worry about your CPU If you play on Mac, though. You will be just fine with the M1.
