When you approach the end of the MW2 campaign, things escalate quickly. After rescuing Alejandro, the main characters decide to retaliate against the Shadow Company.
However, to give Alejandro his base back, the Ghost Team must go through all sorts of enemies. After you survive Alone in Los Almas and deal with many armored enemies, it’s time to fight Phillip Graves.
If you follow our tips, Phillip Graves won’t stand a chance, and this boss fight will be much easier than you’d expect. Here’s how to defeat Phillip Graves (and the tank) in CoD Modern Warfare 2.
How to Destroy the Tank in Modern Warfare 2
In order to defeat Phil Graves, you will have to use the C4 that you find around the boss battle area.
Run around and deal with the Shadows while looking for the red crates with the C4 you need.
This process might become annoying quickly. In all fairness, it is a bit repetitive. Stay alive, find C4, throw at the tank, detonate and repeat.
Make sure you get close enough to the tank. Soap won’t throw the C4 too far. Also, it doesn’t detonate automatically. You will have to press the Interact button in order to detonate it.
You will have to do it a few times to get the job done.
You won’t want to be standing still during this battle. Phillip will be chasing you with the tank. If you stand still at any moment, he will use the tank gun, and you will have to start over.
Be careful when on a rooftop, as the tank will destroy the building, making it harder to fight.
Fight the shadows only when necessary. They are here to prevent the battle from being too easy and won’t stop showing up until Graves is defeated.
How to Defeat Phillip Graves Easily in MW2
If you use a rocket launcher and a riot shield, you might have a much easier time when fighting Graves. However, you have to go through the rest of the mission with that in mind.
Right at the beginning of the mission, when you are fighting the tower, some Shadows will show up on the top of a building.
Wait for the one with a rocket launcher to show up, take that guy down, and wait until the next one shows up with the same weapon. Take that one out, too.
Once you get to the top of the building, you will find a rocket launcher. There will be one on the ground for each of the Shadows using an RPG that you took down. Use one to make your life a bit easier during the next section, and trade the other for your secondary weapon.
Now, with the rocket launcher in your possession, forget about it until you get to the boss battle. You must do your best not to use it since it will give you a significant advantage during the boss fight.
I managed to make it to the boss fight using nothing but a riot shield. I can’t say it was easy, but it was easier than expected. You can try to do the same if you want a challenging experience.
Once you get to the boss fight, you know what to do. Use the rocket launcher to damage the tank. Don’t waste ammo. Take your time and make sure you will have direct hits.
If you do this correctly, Rodolf will let you know by saying: “Tank is taking damage. Hit him again!”
When Rodolfo says that, it means you’ve done it correctly and have skipped a significant part of the boss fight. You might need two C4s at most to take the tank down, but one well-placed explosion should do the trick.
Follow these steps and see how much easier the battle gets. Instead of dealing with armored enemies for a long time, you will only need to do a C4 run once.
Stop Hassan
The fight against Phillip Graves in MW2 is one of the most challenging moments in MW2’s campaign, but we are not at the grand finale yet.
