Baldur’s Gate 3 introduces players to a vast open world filled with essential items to collect. Some are more valuable than gold, like Infernal Iron.

This rare material is crucial in creating potent weapons and machinery in the Nine Hells. In the game’s narrative, Infernal Iron is particularly tied to Karlach, the fiery Tiefling barbarian companion.

To progress in Karlach’s storyline and enhance her fiery engine, Infernal Iron becomes a necessity.

Yet, the more you advance in the game, the harder it becomes to know where to find infernal Iron in Baldur’s Gate 3.

All Infernal Iron Locations

You can find quite a few pieces of this material. The first one is relatively easy; you can get it from The Blighted Village. The others are not as easy to find, but we are here to help:

The Blighted Village

One of the initial sources of Infernal Iron is beneath the Blighted Village, west of the Druid Grove. While exploring the village, head to the northern houses.

There, you’ll encounter locked, Shabby Wooden Doors. Use your Sleight of Hand skills to pick the lock and access the cellar.

Alternatively, a hole covered in calcified webs inside the house provides another entry point. Breaking through the web grants access to the cellar, albeit at a cost to your health.

Inside the cellar, a locked chest contains a piece of Infernal Iron and a +1 Shortsword.

The Shattered Sanctum

The second piece of Infernal Iron is located in the Shattered Sanctum within the Goblin Camp. Obtaining it poses a greater challenge.

Get the key from Dror Ragzlin or skillfully lockpick the Iron Gate. Be cautious, as the lockpicking requires a DC 20 Sleight of Hand check.

Zhentarim Hideout

The Zhentarim Hideout, concealed within Waukeen’s Rest, offers another opportunity to secure Infernal Iron.

Obtain the passcode by helping traders trapped by Gnolls on the Risen Road. Inside the hideout, navigate to the back of the cave and find a boobytrapped chest containing Infernal Iron.

Underdark Grymforge

While exploring the Underdark and engaging in the Myconid vs. Duergar questline, you’ll come across the Underdark Grymforge.

Interact with trader Stonemaker Kith, who rewards you with Infernal Iron for passing specific checks or offers it for purchase.

Gauntlet of Shar

As you progress through Act II in the Shadow-Cursed Lands, the Gauntlet of Shar introduces another source of Infernal Iron.

Defeat the necromancer Balthazar and unlock a nearby chest to obtain a piece of Infernal Iron.

Reithwin’s Mason Guild

In the Shadow-Cursed Lands, Reithwin’s Mason Guild houses Infernal Iron on an open table. To retrieve it, head to coordinates (X: -104, Y: 18).

How to Use Infernal Iron

In BG3, Infernal Iron is essential in advancing Karlach’s narrative.

It assists in repairing her infernal engine, a machine that was once powered by souls. It now lacks its infernal mechanic, becoming central to her journey.

Dammon, the Tiefling blacksmith in the Druid Grove, possesses expertise in infernal forging. He becomes a key figure in mending Karlach’s engine.

If Dammon survives the events of Act 1, you can find him at the Last Light Inn during Act 2. Otherwise, Karlach’s questline experiences a temporary halt.

To use Infernal Iron effectively, locate Dammon, the skilled Tiefling blacksmith. During Karlach’s questline, Dammon uses the Infernal Iron to repair her engine, which advances her storyline.

Ensure you recruit Karlach before completing the Goblins vs. Refugees. Not only she is helpful when fighting powerful enemies such as Priestess Gut, it also allows you to experience the optimal progression for Kalarch’s storyline.

Dammon’s role extends beyond Act 1. You’ll find him at the Last Light Inn in Act 2, and in Act 3, he can be found in the Forge of the Nine, nestled to the left of Elfsong Tavern in the lower city of Baldur’s Gate.

The scarcity of Infernal Iron emphasizes its importance in this game. By uncovering these scattered sources, you’ll enrich your gameplay experience by fully experiencing the intricate storylines of Baldur’s Gate 3.
