The campfire is a handy block that you can use for a variety of things, mainly to cook food and use as a light source.

It is a good item to have in the early stages of Minecraft, especially if you want an extra light source and way to make food other than a furnace or a smoker.

In this tutorial we will show you how to make a campfire in Minecraft and use it.

Minecraft Campfire Recipe

  • 3 sticks
  • 1 charcoal
  • 3 wood logs (any wood)

The campfire is a good early game item, because it requires the very basic materials. The only one you may wonder how to get is charcoal.

Charcoal can be made by smelting a wooden plank or log in a furnace, just like an ore.

For the wood portion of the recipe you have to make sure you are not using wooden planks. Any other version of wood works except those.

That means wooden logs, stripped logs, or regular wood.

How to Use a Campfire

Once you have made a campfire you can place it down anywhere. The best thing about them is that they’re an open flame that does not spread fire.

A campfire is immediately lit up when placed, so you do not need to light it yourself.

The campfire will give you some light and allow you to cook food around the fire. You can place a total of 4 pieces of food at once to cook.

There are some more unique ways to use campfires in Minecraft, too.

If you are trying to breed bees and have a few hives or nests that you want to harvest honey from, you can actually use a campfire to pacify the bees.

Usually bees will attack you if you try harvesting from the hive.

A campfire acts like a smoker and will calm the bees, allowing you to harvest honey without being attacked.

Just place the campfire directly under the hive or nest.

Beehives

They have a slightly similar effect on piglins in the Nether, but in their case a campfire will completely repel them from the area.

Finding a Campfire

Campfires are pretty rare to find naturally generating in the world.

You will only find them in taiga and snowy taiga villages, which are rare and cold biomes.

In other cases you can find them in Ancient Cities, but in their soul campfire variant. These are blue and deal more damage when you walk over them, but they can be used in the same way as a regular campfire.

Extinguishing a Campfire

A campfire can be extinguished in a few ways. The first one being either with water or simply by hitting it with a shovel.

Sometimes you will find that you may need to do this in order to protect yourself or your mobs. A campfire can still light you and others on fire, causing fire damage or even killing you. A soul campfire will do far more damage than a regular one.

In other cases an extinguished campfire can be used for decoration and building.

I often use extinguished campfires in many of my builds, especially when building bridges.

There will be many other ways to use the campfires in buildings, it is just a matter of thinking outside the box and experimenting.
