The Halo Scythe is undoubtedly one of the best scythes in Elden Ring. It only needs 13 strength, 16 dexterity, and 15 to wield it properly. Despite its low stat requirement, the scythe can carry you all the way to late game.
Its defining feature is its unique weapon skill called Miquella’s Ring of Light. Using the scythe’s ability conjures large wheels of light that hover in place before flying out to meet your target.
These holy halos deal a tremendous amount of damage and scale with your Faith attribute. Additionally, these also apply bleed buildup leading to a massive burst of damage based on their max health.
These projectiles also trick enemies into dodging early during the cast, making them easy targets for the spell. It’s most noticeable during boss fights, especially when they’re quick to avoid your other spells. It also works wonders in PvP scenarios, and you’ll be surprised how often the delay confuses invaders.
Miquella’s Ring of Light dishes out so much damage while only costing 11 focus points. You can also chain cast it for multiple instances of damage.
Additionally, the scythe moveset is excellent for multiple situations. For example, the light attack can easily clip flying opponents, and the heavy attack makes crowd control a trivial affair. Its long range is also a welcome addition for melee combat.
You really can’t go wrong using this weapon. I’ll show you where to get Halo Scythe in Elden Ring in this guide. Particularly, a pretty efficient farming pattern to ease the hefty grind for this weapon.
Halo Scythe Location
You can get the Halo Scythe from the Cleanrot Knights in the Swamp of Aeonia. These are dextrous knights that use both a spear and sword and wear distinct golden armor decorated with red fur.
They also drop the Cleanrot Spear, Cleanrot Knight’s sword, and the Cleanrot armor set composed of the helm, armor, gauntlets, and greaves. The Halo Scythe has the lowest drop rate of all these items, so you’ll likely amass a collection of these items before getting the scythe.
First, make your way to the Aeonia Swamp Shore Site of Grace. First, start from the Smoldering Church in Caelid, just east of Summonwater Village. Then, follow the main road towards Caelid until you find the Site of Grace near the Smoldering Wall.
There are two more Sites of Grace you can pick up next to the swamp. There’s the Astray From Caelid Highway North one, just a bit south of the Smoldering Wall. Then, there’s the Aeonia Swamp Shore Site of Grace just east of that.
The Swamp of Aeonia is one of the best places to farm Aeonian Butterfly. A crafting ingredient that can be used to create Scarlet Rot-inducing items. Keep an eye out for the red butterflies and grab them while you’re here.
Before trying to farm the Halo Scythe in Elden Ring, make sure to take care of the NPC invader in the swamp. Remember, during an invasion, you’ll lose access to your horse, and this is a death sentence while in the middle of the scarlet rot-blighted swamp.
From the Aeonia Swamp Shore Site of Grace, find the ghost near the shore. It’s facing the general direction of Millicent, the NPC invader.
Mount your horse and move towards the geysers; then, when you receive the invasion notification, retreat to the safety of the shore and have a fair fight.
As mentioned earlier, the drop chance for the Halo Scythe is abysmally low. Thus, we need to do one more pit stop to unlock an optimal reset point for the tedious grind ahead.
There’s a wide clearing on the eastern side of the swamp. It’s easy to spot because of all the tangled branches and roots. Inside, you’ll fight a challenging boss named Commander O’Neil. He’ll drop a crucial key item related to Sage Gowry’s questline, which also begins Millicent’s quest.
But for our task now, defeating Commander O’Neil unlocks the Heart of Aeonia Site of Grace. We’ll use this Site of Grace to efficiently farm the Cleanrot Knights in the vicinity, easing the grind to get the Halo Scythe.
It is a good idea to equip the Lance Talisman as it increases damage on horseback. It boosts your melee attacks by approximately 15%. Additionally, lightning-based incantations are also helpful since Cleanrot Knights are weak against it.
Finally, mount your horse and head west starting from Heart of Aoenia Site of Grace. Deal with the first Cleanrot Knight skulking about in this area.
Afterward, head north and deal with the three Cleanrot Knights there. Deal with the first one immediately because the other two will take their time to spawn from the swamp.
There are two more Cleanrot Knights to the east, but it’s much more efficient to go back to the Site of Grace and reset. Repeat this as much as you can stand to get the Halo Scythe in Elden Ring.
Prepare a podcast or something to listen to while doing this because it will take some time. I was fortunate to get the Halo Scythe within an hour, but others will have different results.
An item discovery item like the Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot will slightly help, but it’s mandatory to have one. Don’t give up, though, because the Halo Scythe is one of the best faith scaling weapons, and its weapon art can carry you through the game.
After finding the Halo Scythe make sure to upgrade it back in the Roundtable Hold after collecting enough Smithing Stones. The Halo Scythe’s damage output greatly increases per upgrade and it can absolutely melt most enemies.
