Old School Runescape is full of dangerous, formidable monsters for players to fight. These monsters and NPC’s can be found in a wide variety of locations across the game. However, there are also many locations with large amounts of specific monsters.
One such location is the Catacombs of Kourend, which many players love to use for their Slayer tasks. This is due to two reasons. The first is the sheer variety of monsters that can be found within, from simple ghosts and skeletons, to demon varieties, to dragons of all different colors.
Second, most of the dungeon is multi-combat, meaning multiple monsters can attack the players at once. When using the appropriate protection prayer, you can AFK train your Slayer.
As an OSRS player looking to level up their Slayer, you should learn how to get to Catacombs in OSRS. That’s exactly what I’m going to teach you in this guide.
Investigating the Statue
Getting to the Catacombs can be done in several simple steps. First, you must complete the quest “X Marks the Spot.” This quest is incredibly quick and easy, since it was designed for brand new accounts. Once this quest is completed, talk to the same NPC. His name is Veos.
Talking to Veos again after “X Marks the Spot” will prompt you to start the next quest in his storyline, called “Client of Kourend.” Completion of this quest is not required, but it must be started to access Kourend. It’s just as easy as, but a little more time consuming than “X Marks the Spot,” so I would recommend completing it anyway.
Once you’ve reached the appropriate step/completed the quest, head to the main Kourend Castle, immediately west of the docks. There is a large white statue in the Castle’s courtyard. All you need to do is left-click “investigate” on this statue.
Investigating the statue prompts the text “You investigate what looks like hinges on the statue and find it opens.” Then, you will find yourself in the Catacombs of Kourend. Congratulations! You’ve gotten to the Catacombs in Old School Runescape. However, there are several other entrances and methods of getting there.
Unlocking Other Entrances
There are five other entrances to the Catacombs, but they can only be unlocked from inside. Each is located within the five cities of Kourend.
That being said, the monsters inside the OSRS Catacombs are tough, so I’d recommend using protection prayers. In fact, if you have a high enough Prayer level, you should learn how to unlock Piety in OSRS.
In the Northeast corner, near the Greater and Black Demons, there is a climbable vine that leads up to Arceuus, near the Dark Altar.
In the Northwest corner, near the Brutal Black Dragons, there is another climbable vine leading to Lovakengj. The Southern portion contains a vine near the Deviant Spectres that leads to Shayzien. This entrance is noteworthy as the nearest to a Fairy Ring teleport.
In the Southeastern section, you can find an exit to the Forthos Dungeon, which exits in Hosidius. This one is also noteworthy as the nearest exit to an Altar. With each of these extra entrances unlocked, you now have full access to the Catacombs of Kourend.
Keep in mind, you’ll need some gear to survive the tough monsters in these areas.
Additional Statue Methods
There are a few additional ways to reach the main Castle entrance, as well. If you’ve completed the “Architectural Alliance” miniquest, you can use Xeric’s talisman to teleport to Xeric’s Heart; this brings you right outside the statue.
Alternatively, you can unlock the Kourend Castle teleport spell by reading the book “Transportation Incantations.” The book can be found in the Arceuus library, and the spell requires 69 Magic.
Moreover, if you have the required Construction level and runes, you can install a portal directly to the Kourend Castle in the portal room or portal nexus of your Player-Owned House. Many players agree this is one of the best uses for the limited portal space in a POH.
Final Thoughts
There are several easy steps to get to Catacombs in OSRS.
Simply complete the simple quest “X Marks the Spot” then start the quest “Client of Kourend.”
With the quest started, you can investigate the statue in the Kourend Castle courtyard. This leads directly into the Catacombs of Kourend.
