If the Hurricane FSS is the closest thing to an Assault Rifle in the SMG class, I’d say the STB 556 is the closest thing to an SMG among the ARs.

The STB 556 (also known as the AUG) is a surprisingly good AR in MW2. It sometimes feels like an SMG because of its fast rate of fire and because it’s so light to move with.

If you want to know how to make the most out of this gun, keep reading to see the best STB 556 loadout in CoD Modern Warfare 2.

The Best STB 556 Class Setup in MW2

STB Build
  • Barrel: 508MM Rear Guard
  • Laser: VLK LZR 7MW
  • Optic: None
  • Stock: None
  • Comb: FTAC C11 Riser
  • Underbarrel: None
  • Ammunition: None
  • Magazine: None
  • Rear Grip: Stip-40 Grip
  • Receiver: STB 556
  • Muzzle: Harbinger D20

As mentioned, this Assault Rifle feels like an SMG. So, we are going to just make it overall much better with these attachments.

This build focuses on making this weapon more reliable and more damaging at longer distances since it is already super deadly up close.

Not only that, but these attachments also make the STB 556’s Aim Down Sight speed one of the best in the game by far.

Once you get the hang of it, I’m sure you will get addicted. As far as ARs go, this is by far the best one for running and gunning.

When paired with other powerful weapons, such as the Lockwood 300, the STB 556 will make you king of close-quarter maps.

Even if you don’t like Assault Rifles or the STB 556 in general, this loadout will undoubtedly help you unlock platinum camo and attachments for other guns.

Barrel: 508MM Rear Guard

The 508MM Read Guard was built for accuracy. It increases the STB 556’s precision and makes the weapon slightly heavier.

For that reason, you lose a bit of Aim Down Sight Speed and Hip Recoil Control. The second one won’t even affect you. In exchange for those cons, you gain more Damage Range, Hip Fire Accuracy, and Bullet Velocity.

All those, combined with the already incredible rate of fire of the STB 556, make this Assault Rifle feel somewhat overpowered.

Laser: VLK LZR 7MW

The VLK LZR 7MW laser offers superior aiming speed, stability, and Sprint to Fire speed. All of those significantly impact the weapon’s Handling and Accuracy.

In exchange for all of those benefits, your enemies get to see a red beam when you are aiming. The cons of this attachment are not a big deal. For all you get, enemies can steam at the green beam of your laser. It won’t change their fate.

Aiming Stability is extremely helpful, and Sprint to Fire Speed makes this Assault Rifle an excellent weapon for running and gunning.

Comb: Forge Tac

Forge Tac created this modification, the CTAC C11 Riser, to help you get on sight faster when using the STB 556.

This attachment slightly diminishes your Aiming Stability and Aim Walking Speed.

That said, not only if it barely affects your stats, you won’t need those two that much anyway. In exchange, you get Sprint to Fire Speed and Aim Down Sight Speed.

Following the theme established by this class setup, the weapon becomes much faster.

Rear Grip: Stip-40 Grip

The STIP-40 grip is a stippled grip tape for better grip on most firearms. Added texture creates better control.

You get extra Recoil Control but lose a bit of Aiming Stability. The accuracy you lose is barely noticeable, but the additional Recoil Control is quite good.

This makes keeping the crosshead on the target easier if you have to hold down the trigger for a longer time than usual.

Muzzle: Harbinger D20

The Harbinger D20 muzzle affects your Aim Down Sight Speed and hits this weapon’s handling pretty bad.

However, this will be justifiable. With all the extra Aim Down Sight Speed that we added to the STB 556, the hit you take on the ADS won’t hurt you too much.

In exchange for making the weapon heavier with the Harbinger 20, you get Sound Suppression, Bullet Velocity, Damage Range, and Recoil Smoothness.

All these things make the STB 556 much more reliable at a distance and overall more accurate.

Alternative STB 556 Loadout in MW2

STB Zero Recoil 2
  • Barrel: FTAC FB20
  • Laser: None
  • Optic: None
  • Stock: Bruen HCR 56 Stock
  • Comb: None
  • Underbarrel: Demo Firm Grip
  • Ammunition: None
  • Magazine: None
  • Rear Grip: Stip-40 Grip
  • Receiver: STB 556
  • Muzzle: RF Crown 50

The STB 556 is a great weapon, but its recoil can be a problem. This loadout aims to significantly reduce recoil for better accuracy in close-range combat.

It also focuses on hip-fire accuracy, allowing you to hold down the trigger and take out enemies before you even need to aim down the sights.

If this is not what you are looking for, I suggest you check out guide on the Vel 46 no recoil loadout. The Vel 46 is light, powerful, and the attachments suggested in the article will make it barely move while you hold the trigger.
