There are several distinct ways to play Modern Warfare 2. In my humble opinion, running and gunning is by far one of the most fun.

There’s a thrill in dashing across the battlefield, slide canceling, and shooting down every enemy who dares to stand in your way.

That said, there are good and bad ways of doing it. Some weapons might not work very well with this playstyle. Don’t worry, though. We’re about to show you how to do it properly.

Stick around to learn the best run and gun loadout in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Best Build for Running and Gunning in MW2

Hurricane Kill
  • Primary Weapon: FSS Hurricane or Lachmann Sub
  • Secondary Weapon: any pistol
  • Base Perks: Ghost, Spotter, Scavenger
  • Bonus Perk: Focus or Quick Fix
  • Ultimate Focus: Hardline
  • Best Killstreaks: UIV

Your objective here is to be quick on your feet. You will run and jump instead of slowly checking a corner. You will slide diagonally toward your opponent instead of hiding behind a cover.

Therefore, you need anything that can help you be faster, find enemies, and stay invisible when possible.

Since you will be getting into many close-quarters gunfights, there is a good chance you will constantly be getting shot, too.

Luckily, there are Perks that can help you with all that.

Best Primary Weapon

FSS Hurricane

There are a few good weapons to handle enemies up close. Go with a shotgun or an SMG to have an easy and reliable way to deal with enemies up close.

If you intend to bunny-hop and slide-cancel your way to victory, an SMG is the better choice.

Make sure to check the best FSS Hurricane loadout. That Weapon is the most effective SMG at all ranges.

It can be even more dangerous if you fine-tune it for close-quarters combat.

That said, if you are exclusively looking for corridor and corner battles at short range, the best SMG for the job is most likely the Lachmann Sub. It lacks the FSS Hurricane’s extra range, but it makes up for it due to an even higher rate of fire.

When an enemy gets really close to you, shotguns can be great. One good headshot is more than enough to take down an enemy.

Unfortunately, if you miss, you might not have the time to fire a second shot.

Just in case you really want to carry a shotgun, the Lockwood MK2 has the potential to take down enemies with a single shot. It is a good weapon for quickscoping due to its unexpectedly long range.

The one-shot kill is guaranteed if you can hit the target in the head.

In addition, even if your aim is not great, this Weapon can two-shot enemies as long as you don’t hit them on the limbs.

Best Lethal and Tactical for Run and Gun Loadouts

You can be a bit lose when it comes to Tacticals and Lethals. If you like to use grenades to clear out rooms or small locations, go for it. A frag grenade always works.

That said, I do like throwing knives for a run-and-gun build. That way, you can refill your ammo and knives every time you get a kill because of the Scavenger perk.

If you combine Scavenger with Quick Fix, you will always have health and ammo as long as you keep taking down enemy soldiers.

Best Perks for Running and Gunning in MW2

  • Basic Perk 1: Double Time or Tracker
  • Basic Perk 2: Scavenger, Tracker, or Overkill
  • Bonus Perk: Quick Hands
  • Ultimate Perk: Hardline

Scavenger will be getting your ammo back every time you get a kill. SMG ammo runs out quickly, so Scavenger becomes really helpful.

However, it is especially powerful when combined with Throwing Knives since you will be getting them back, too.

That way, you can get ammo and Lethal back as long as you manage to get kills and stay alive.

If Scavenger doesn’t help you much, try using Tracker to see where your enemies are hiding. It might help a lot when you are running around and looking for targets.

Tracker can also substitute Double Time in case you don’t feel like you’re getting much out of it.

Finally, I recommended the Overkill perk just in case you want an option in case you find a good spot on high ground. I personally like using a sniper along with my SMGs.

In case you want to carry two primary weapons, you will need the Overkill perk.
