Solasta: Crown of the Magister might look or feel a bit like a lot of other RPGs out there. This is probably the case because this game is based on D&D, much like Baldur’s Gate and other classic games.
However, unlike those titles, Solasta: Crown of the Magister takes inspiration from the fifth edition of D&D, which came out almost two decades after Baldur’s Gate first came out.
The thing I like the most about Solasta: Crown of the Magister is that it is a tactical, turn-based RPG, which is fitting for a game that is so faithful to the source material.
Besides, I do love turn-based games. In fact, if you are a huge D&D geek and like turn-based combat, it wouldn’t surprise me if you consider Solasta one of the best turn-based Steam games.
The game is full of cool little details that make it more immersive and more D&D-esque.
For instance, magic users use words and chants when casting spells, the enemies do have a passive perception score when you are trying to surprise them, and there is a mode for map creation so you can add original campaigns.

The role-playing video game Pillars of Eternity comes from Obsidian Entertainment and Paradox Interactive. The game was designed as a spiritual successor to the Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale series, which is why you can easily find a fair few other great games like Pillars of Eternity out there.
This game is set in the fictional nation of Dyrwood in the world of Eora. Due to recent phenomena, children in the Dyrwood are hollowborn, which means they are born without a soul.
The story quickly introduces the protagonist as they awaken to power at the beginning of the game. As a result of a devastating supernatural incident, the protagonist realizes their role as a Watcher: someone who can communicate with spirits and view past incarnations.
Now, the Watcher must find out what caused his awakening and how to deal with the hollowborn issue that is afflicting the nation of Dyrwood before something worst happens to Eora.
Pillars of Eternity offers a lot to the players, from meaning to their actions to a decent level of character customization. It has eleven classes, six races, fire core skills that change how you approach certain situations, and a reputation system that makes your choices matter.

This game has everything that already existed in Pathfinder: Kingmaker but has improved it upon a larger scale. Although I do believe that both are good games, this is one of the most robust and profound medieval fantasy RPGs I’ve ever seen.
In Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, you embark on an epic journey and choose your mythical path. There are many quests to complete, secret endings to unlock, and more.
You can choose from 25 classes, 12 character races, and over a thousand spells, feats, and abilities to make your character fit your playstyle.
Although the game does feel like a classic isometric RPG, the gameplay feels more current, and the UI is much better than what you’d see in older games. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous has decent graphics, stories, and gameplay.
By default, combat is active. However, you can change it to turn-based so you can think strategically and tell each party member what to do. This gameplay style will feel very familiar to anyone who has played Dragon Age: Origins.
